Being a teacher, I have summers that are very flexible. I am looking for a destination to ride to. I have done some small (200) mile trips but am looking for a place to go that I will remember forever. I am limited by geography and leaving the kids with the wife for too long. I live near the middle of Illinois which is really flat and boring if you are not next to a river. I drove a Uhaul truck to Sun Valley this past Thanksgiving and thought coming back on a Bike would be near Nirvana. I cant get to California or that far but really want to hear what you have done or are planning. Let me hear about any trips you did or want to do. I love reading the details of others plans. For me it is about the journey and memories. Thanks

 

pretty much go anywhere there are canyons or mountains. I'm spoiled up here in denver.

IL rt 1 (great river road) is a good ride. Runs most of the length of Illinois.

I hit part of the river road the other day near Hardin to Grafton. Was a nice ride but by then my rear was hurtin pretty good from the previous 150 miles. I did take a ferry ride across the Illinois river for the first time. ...... That was a little spooky but very cool skimming across the water on a barge while sitting on the Hawk. I will do this again when the area

 

Sounds like you took the kampsville ferry. Yeah, that is the downfall, good ride to get there for us.
