Crashed
Crashed
Going home form work Saturday night I was just rolling nice and easy, doing about 60. Normally I'm doing 90 or so, but I'm relaxed, sitting up even, not crouching.
I'm just tooling along the curves and I get a feeling that I should slow down. So I do. Doing about 55... when all the sudden a Semi comes around the curve I'm about to enter going way too fast and is all the way in my line.
I went for the shoulder and the truck just barely clipped me. Didn't even stop either.
I went down. Broken wrist, sprained ankle. Riding gear really saved me.
My not so heavy duty jeans that I never wear when I'm riding - I was wearing them this time. My knee is scraped up, dislocated patella, and burned from the radiator and I have a radiator grill pattern on my leg. Shaken, but not stirred. I'm pretty much alright.
The bike though. No headlight, no instrument lights come on, but the clock works. Turn signal on the left side is scraped off, fairing cracked, and the shifter is bent. I was still able to pick the bike up and ride it home.
I need to get the bike in running shape again because it's my only transportation.
Any idea where the problem is that is keeping the instruments from coming on?

Damn, glad you're somewhat ok. Your a boss for being able to ride home with a broke wrist.
Check all of your wiring for burns or broken wires, fuses obviously. Were you able to see a company logo (even the shape or colors) or anything on the truck? Maybe if it is a local company you will see another truck, or if its an out of state company someone might be able to recognize it and point you in the right direction.

Thanks guys. My windscreen is fine... so is the headlight. It's just not coming on.
I slid from gravel into dirt and scrub brush... only on pavement for a blink.
No, I didn't catch anything on the truck. I was close enough though to get a real good look at the bugs on his huge freaking chrome bumper and my reflection in it of my own mirrored visor. I could see into eternity for that moment! LOL. It happened so fast it was crazy.
Had I been on my old Magna - I'd be dead right now. It was sluggish compared to me Hawk. Had I been in car - I'd have hit that truck head on too.

Are you kidding? The truck was doing at least 75. I had a broken wrist and sprained ankle and pants that were getting an ever large blood stain... It took awhile to get the bike back up and restarted. He could have been anywhere by then.
Well did you at least make a police report? Not bagging on you, who knows what I would do in the same situation. I didn't realize he was travellig that fast, I thought you were on a small curvy road with a low speed limit.
Thank God you are alright(ish). It was Him looking out (not someone).
It would've been foolish to chase the truck since after a crash you really dont know how damaged you are due to adrenaline.
When I hisided & broke my collarbone into 3 pieces I got up, picked up the bike, push started it, put it in the garage, got on my mountain bike & biked 2 miles home. THEN the adrenaline wore off...3 broken ribs too.....ouch.
Check you fuses and the plugs behind the dash. Strange damage.

Thanks guys. The support helps. Third day, they say, is the worst. I think they are right. Feels like I been pummeled by a Heavy Weight Champ.
I pulled the fairing off and I'm trying to find where the problem is and I'm having no luck so far. Hopefully I can get this sorted out tomorrow as I have to ride to work Wed.

Pain is something I'm very much used to. I'm not chest beating... I just have a history of dealing with lots of pain. I have had my knees rebuilt multiple times, gun shots, a stab, and broken bones of all types. Trust me when I say - I've had worse.
I got the lights on. Instrumentation is back. Gauges, Odometer, Fuel... It's all back. Booyaah!
Rode it for 45 miles. Seems fine save for the lack of turn signals and a bent shifter. I look at this like a chance to upgrade.

No turn signals? That is not a safe way to ride. Did the handlebar switch get bashed? Try pushing up on the selector itself when you turn on a turnsignal. It may make contact. Or maybe spray it with contact cleaner.
