Couple of things!

First and foremost, thank you Marcus and Mike for helping me out so much with my SH. Got the pulse generators in the mail and she started up with only the gas in the bowls that had been there for almost 3.5 months. She's now back on the road and healthier than ever.

Took her for a celebratory ride just for ***** and giggles and wowza, my VF is my baby, but my VTR is my love =p

Took Bear Creek road to HW9, the the gap between 236 and skyline, back down Saratoga gap. Pacekeeper was a Harley so I didn't get to really chew down the strips but it was... spirited =)

Now, I'm trying to help my buddy figure out some new rides to trade for his Harley. He's got the chicken strips down on the 200 on the back of his nighttrain down to about 1 cm and that's scraping the exhaust.

The choices on the board are '08 Speed Triple, '07 B-king (the most deadly of the bunch), and a KTM superduke 990.

Triple I think looks the best, B-king has the most power at the expense of handling and the superduke is the most similar to the VTR with lower weight and a more radical appearance. He uses it mostly for commute and occasional twisties (like myself).

Input would be awesome because I complicated the mess by suggesting the KTM and now I'm trying to come up with more logical points to tell him. And this is going to be skewed, so don't ask me to tell him to get a VTR, he's been there and done that hahahaha.

My vote goes to the Triple. It's on the short list of bikes I'd like to have parked next to the Superhawk in the garage some day.

I think the Brembo and Ohlin suspension would be enough to make me want it! I have stood outside the dealership drooling over the damn things. mmmmm, so sexy!

The main point of the purchase is to have something that is not only a blast to ride, but not something that you seen on the road a dime a dozen. The KTMRC8 was on the table for a bit, but it's a tad expensive to import and buy. If you don't know what it is, google that ****. hotdamn.

Buell are also on table but there are a couple of A**holes who have gotten in trouble with the locals and gave the bike/riders a bad name.

One benefit of the superduke is that if we went for rides together, we'd have to fill up at the same time LOL

I’ve owned a handful of big Triumph I3s and they have always been top heavy machines. I think every year they get the things lighter, but I’m not sure this characteristic has been cured. The result is you fall into corners that you would rather ride through. You get used to it and the way the thing creates power is just about perfect, but I like the VTR much better.

I can’t comment on the other two bikes other than to say an I4 will never satisfy someone interested in a twin. The I3 (and V4 and – to a much lesser degree -- even a single) might get you there, but if you like instant power you won’t like an I4 this side of a FJ1200.

Why not a Ducati Classic Sport (Sport Classic?) or a ‘Guzzi? The HD guys will still wave to him if he’s on a V7 and the Duck will even take down sport riders from time to time. I like the old Ducati Monster 800 a lot, too.

Please don’t commute on a Buell. It’s like meeting supermodels just to be friends.

Just some ideas.

Only problem is he's looking for something more sporty, that isn't gonna break the bank when he trades it. I tried to convince him to get an older Tuono R because that has a bunch of sexies on it, but he said he didn't want to get a duc or a aprillia. There's a lot of guys with both around these parts where the douche bags ride RSVs and 999's financed by their daddies who don't know how to ride. Same thing with the squids on big i4s with lots of money dumped into them with no knowledge of riding.

Granted, it is fun to make them cry when you show them up on a '84 VF1000F coming out of the twisties when their apexes are all over the place and they apparently don't know how to use the throttle properly. The SH just embarrasses them and you can tell they want to trade for something that is even more powerful and going to kill them even faster hahaha.

I should rephrase here, it is commuting and frequent twisties when weather permits. We ride year-round and now that the sun is starting to poke out it's going to be more like a 3x a week 100m a day ride =D The Superduke seems to be the most likely choice right now, it just might be a little tall haha. So a Buell isn't out of the question but somewhat impractical haha.

I even have to say those things are damn sexy. I'd love to get out and pull some rear wheel drifts coming out of some 180 degree uphill right handers, hubba-hubba.

He already has a Guzzi too, a nice Jackal for crusing and I've never been a fan of the engines, just something... uninspiring. But who knows. I'll keep you guys posted and probably give you a picture to be jealous of on the roads around here =)

If you’re pushing the big VF through the curves, I3 Triumphs will feel like toys. I had a VF700R back in the day and really wanted the 1000, but when I actually sat on one… Well, that’s a man’s machine. Does that have the air forks? Scary.

I’ve only seen a few Superdukes, but they look like a lot of fun. Tall seat though, no?

Having choices like this is a good problem to have. J
