Corbin quality

Ya know, it baffles me that a well established company like Corbin could survive in this harsh world. THIS ebay link shows a seat that seems to be par for the course with respect to Corbin quality. About half the used seats I see for sale have the same problem, both here and on ebay. You think that they would identify the problem after some time and fix the longevity problem....

Maybe this should go in the Rant section?

P.S. I LOVE MY SARGENT!

my corbins are fine. they're comfy. that being said i'm still not a fan. their service is just terrible. they have a very independent attitude.

I second that. The "Smuggler" I had was great... except for that p.o.s. seat attached to it.

thats a shame, for the amount of money they charge youd assume youre going to get something thats going to last for a really long time.

Do you think that has more to do with the way someone handles it or simply the materials cracking and crumbling? I also agree with the quality vs. the premium price you pay, but my issue was always with regards to fitment. I've had several-granted they were used-but they all had the exact same fitment problem. They stuck up in the back and made the passenger cover stick up way too high. I just can't understand a big company like that allowing a product to pass quality fitting like **** like that. And like I said I've seen 3 different ones do it exactly the same.

I can rant about other big companies and horrible service too. I called Injen last week with regards to a cold air intake for my car. After emailing them 3 or 4 times and never getting any kind of response, I decided to call. Asked for a simply dyno chart since everything they sell is rubber stamped "dyno tested" and "dyno proven." Their website also brags "World class customer service." Got a friendly fellow on the phone to whom I explained there was no dyno chart for my part#. He said he had it right there and would email it to me. "Wow" I thought, that's awesome. That was Friday. Called back Monday after never getting anything. Same guy (this is one of those places I guess where no matter what option/department you push you get the SAME ******* PERSON on the phone) answers and procedes to apologize and explain something about forgetting. Procedes to promise to both email AND fax it immediately. Called again today (Tuesday) after not getting anything and he tells me he DID email me (*******) and he was sorry but they don't have a dyno chart for my intake... after telling me he had it in front of him...

I said "so you simply slap a filter on the end of a pipe and sell it for $250? I can get one of those off ebay for $20. "NO NO everything we have is dyno tested." What a ******* idiot...I have no idea how some of these companies stay in business. Sorry I should put this in RANT...

off topic, but make your own, i built a turbo setup for my car didnt buy a single off the shelf part designed for it. everything was 1 off. get some 2.75 inch ss pipe have mandrel bends welded in or bent and then cap it with a filter and stick whatevre color you want on it. save yourself about 150 bucks

I've got a Corbin "Gunfighter and Lady" on my '94 CB1000f, a "Gunfighter" on my '97 Bandit 1200S, and a "Gunfighter" on my '99 ZRX1100. All fit well and have withstood the test of time being 10 or more years old now. They don't sit out in the sun or get rained on here in the high desert though. They get Armor-All'ed or treated with leather conditioner a couple times a year. I have a Sargent on my '98 VTR1000 and one on my '02 FZ-1. They too fit well and are assembled to a high standard. But the Sargents are much lighter, the seat pans look more detailed (psuedo carbon fiber look), and have the nifty little clear storage cylinder bungeed underneath. Both brands do the job from a comfort standpoint but I like the Sargent product from a detail perspective.

I have had 2 Corbins and was very happy with their comfort and durability. I also keep my bikes in the garage and out of crappy weather fort the most part.

I ordered a Corbin seat for my CB1000F. I loved the look and how it felt. But I sent it back three times because of defects in covering and installation. Custom service was great but what a hassle. They recovered it three times in four years. At least they did it over the winter when I have the bikes put away, here in Michigan.
Think I will try another company next time.

I just got a Corbin this spring. I like it a lot but... one of the rubber "feet" on the under side fell off. I had to re-rivet it back on.
I can't imagine Armor All on my seat. It has to be slick as ice when you do this, right?

ArmorAll is only used on the sides or the unused passenger section of my seats during the riding season. At the end of the riding season the rider area gets treated too, covered by a sheet, and then buffed off the following spring. Treating my seats, hoses, and black plastic parts with some version of UV protectant has kept them looking fresh for more than a decade- and not parking the bikes outdoors helps alot.

I have had lots of corbin seats over the years. The best, most comfortable seat I have ever put my butt in or on was a corbin. The most uncomfortable was also a corbin. It takes a fair amount of seat time to break one in correctly. If you buy a used one, it still has to be worn in to change its contours to your specific riding position and body structure. The later corbins have a much harder resin between the cover and the foam. I think the cuts that are commonly found around the lip of a corbin seat pan can be caused by dropping the heavy seat. It cuts itself.

I have a Corbin gunfighter and lady. I like it, and more importantly so does the wife (we tour 2-up on the Firestorm, granted she's not very big but most people seem to think that's impossible / inadviseable). It's 3 years old, with 22000kms of ***-time, and still looks new.

Agree with a couple of the fitment points though - it does sit a little higher than the stock seat.

ordered a seat from corbin. went to pick it up at the honda hoot in knoxville and they said they'd give me the 10% off show special, $180, great! got there six weeks later and they wanted $250! "we had a price increase." my responce: "keep your seat"
went back to hotel. angry and called salesman in fla. he got it straightened out. went back to hoot and got the seat. wasted the better part of a day of my vaca.
