calipers: GSX-R vs RC51

Hi folks,

I am currently running the MC and calipers from an RC51 (SP-2). I have a radial MC (16 mm) from a 2005 R1 on the way. Since I will be overhauling the brake system anyhow, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to replace the RC 4-pot calipers with the 6-pots units from a 01-02 GSX-R 1000? Does anyone have any experience in the matter?

cheers

I got the 6 Pots and an 05 GSXR 1000 Radial MC. Great setup!

As far as the Calipers I would look at the CBR F4I. I think others have done that setup as well, but research.

The 6 pots are pretty much a direct fit with just a little filing or dremmel tool.

I run Vesrah pads, but pretty much all the HH pads are great.

Hey i am curious if the R1 MC had a bleeder on the MC like the GSXR one i bought. Sure as heck made it easy to swap the crappy stock VTR one and bleed the lines.

I had both over the years. The RC 4 piston caliper mated to its rotor is superior to the gixxer 6 piston caliper with the superhawk rotor. but the gixxer setup is still way better that the stock. Master cylinder makes a big difference, so does the rotor diameter.

I've had both the GSXR1000 6 pots and the F4i/RC51 calipers. Both work great, but the F4i calipers are cheaper, theres a greater variety of pads available and they are waaaay cheaper. In short... I ended up giving the 6 pots to a buddy of mine.

thanks guys, I think I'll be sticking to the SP-2 calipers I now have, especially given that the HH pads I installed only have about 5000 miles on them (still a lot of life left in them).

cheers

Which MC did you use with the f4i/rc51 calipers? Or do they both use the same one?

I'm using the stock m/c on my '05 for the F4i calipers. I borrowed the m/c off of my old RC51 when I had the GSXR calipers.

A pal that came home from Iraq recently installed the Rc51MC/Gixxer Caliper combo and was nearly busted out of his requalification excercises required for servicemen before they can ride their bikes. It's the Army's version of MSF.

The range officer's complaint: "you're doing stoppies with one finger."

Seems that he wanted all the fingers on the lever.
