Which is the better deal
I've been a member of this forum for several months. I got side tracked in my pursuit of a VTR1000 when I bought a Buell XB9SX. The Buell was actually a fine motorcycle but when my VTR riding friend and I did a trackday at Road America I was "blown away" by how much faster the Superhawk was over the CityX. I just, minutes ago, sold the CityX and have narrowed my choice of SuperHawks down to two (primary use will be trackdays):
1) 1998 with 22K and Microns and a really bad "turn in to the left at slow speeds" and sounds like it needs a cam chain tensioners and front pads and is priced at $2,600
OR
2) 2004 with 4.5K and Muzzy cans for $4,300--maybe because of the fewer miles it feels stronger everywhere.
Which looks like the better deal--1 or 2--knowing that either with get few street miles (maybe 700) and probably 5 trackdays next year and one this year

I'd go with the #2 or keep looking, but that's just me...
EDIT: I just noticed you said primary use would be track days. Go with #1 for sure. You can replace the CCT's and you will want to upgrade the brakes anyway. Who cares about slight crash damage as long as it's only cosmetic.

that would make me nervous. Pads are easy to replace, and CCTs can be done with reasonable mechanical skills, but that sounds pretty sketchy to me.
if you're a good mechanic then maybe it might be all good, but I'd also go with #2 or keep looking. $4K seems a bit high to me
