Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

Hey all...

I put Race Tech springs and gold valves on top of my X-Mas list.... but seems like everyone including Santa passed on those ideas.... so I'm gonna get a gift for myself!!! Anyway... wondering if anyone out there knows a good place online to get both the springs and gold valves and a good price. The best I've seen is like $90-$95 for the springs (Ron Ayers... of course), but I didn't see the Gold Valves on their site (will call tomorrow)... but if anyone has some suggestions... it would be appriciated, thanks...

Re: Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

What weight springs do you need?
I have a NEW set of .80kg for sale ($60 + shipping)

If those won't work I bought my .90kg springs & Gold Valves (for a little less than $200 shipped) from a guy on the Tulsa SPort Bike Riders forum.
He's closing out his Racetech stock but still has some things left.

Re: Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

Cool, NP, get what you need.
He's a good guy & will give you tips how to rebuild your forks.

He went to the racetech school & bought a bunch of their stuff thinking he would be doing a lot of fork work.
Also traveled the race circuit & learned some further tricks on forks.
Found out he didn't do as much fork work as he hoped & is selling off what he hasn't used.

I've talked to him on the phone several times & corresponded via PM on the TSB forum.

I'm going to do mine in Jan when I get some days off & order a rebound klt.
(he strongly recommends the rebound kit)
I'll have to give him a call about doing a custom shim stack for my weight to clarify shims & spacers - number & position.
Been working too much overtime this month....good for the pocketbook....bad for moral

It's a dirt bike site,, but our VTR's are kinda thumpers..
ThumperTalk.com has a parts store,,, that includes street bike parts.. 110% low price guarantee.

You can getRace Tech Bushings

Race tech springs in .85 and others

And valving kits

I am a MOD there, and would tell ya to mention my username,, but it could either get you better service,, or a price increase...... depending on the day and who you talk with.

You can call 1.866.6.SHOP.TT or shop on line.. No matter what is on line in the catalog.. they can get darn near any part from any manufacture... Even OHLINS type 46HRCS shocks
Thanks bronco78, I'll call & see what price they can make me.

Please share.

If you must buy from RT, find out if they still have those "gift" certificates available - I was able to get either fork springs or a shock spring at $70, with all other parts and services discounted 15%.

Re: Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

Hey all....

Here's what I've found so far....

ThumperTalk was 243 shipped for both springs a valves.

Ron Ayers is 222 w/o shipping for both springs and valves - 92 (springs) 129 (valves) The valves aren't listed online, you have to call the 1-800 line.

I'm probably going Ron Ayers.... this way I can order some other things (like the seals and oil) and have it shipped in the same order.

Nobody can beat my local Honda dealership. I've not found any online sources that have lower prices on OEM or aftermarket parts. In fact, online places are at least 10% over what I pay, plus you have to pay shipping on top of that. Make a good relationship with your local dealer and he will take good care of you.

Re: Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

Hey Bronco.... I appricate the info.... just being loyal to places I've ordered from before (Like Ayers)... I came real close to pushing to purchase button on the Thumper site lastnight, but I wanted to give Ron Ayers a call about the valves first.... had they not been able to supply them, I would have went Thumper....

And I won't hold the salesmen pitch agianst you, unless you start with the telemarketing calls!!!! Hahaha.

Re: Best Place/Price to buy Race Tech

While on the Race Tech spring/valve subject..... what wt. oil are you guys running with the gold valves... I searched and found a few suggesting 5 wt.... is this pretty much the "standard" starting point?

OK, I came across this thread in my search. I was searching for how to fix the stock shim stack in the front forks, so I wouldn't need the RT gold valves. Unfortunately, I didn't find much of anything.

Anyway, these last two posts say that the recommended fork oil weight is 5, but the RT website says USP2, or 10 weight. Is there something I'm missing here? Which is correct? I thought I saw in another post that 5wt was right, but the RT site definitely says 10.

I wound up using the 10wt becuase the RT site said so when I put everything back together, and I like the feel (Haven't tried anything other though)... I'm sure others have tried different combos, and will chime in.
