anyone heard from truckinduc ?
No i didnt. But i have searched ,searched and searched some more and am pretty sure that im getting chain slap. I just dont want to take the chance of riding it and having a failure. Cant afford to fix that you know? Plus i want to change plugs, valve check, coolant flush, oil change, tps chech/adjust,synch carbs and whatever else ican while i have it all apart. Have any tips/input that might help? would be greatly appreciated.

Honda Cam Chain Tensioners, yes they suck big time but there is a $1.50 fix for the later Hondas, F3 and up. If the CCT has a plug (bolt) at the outer end remove it. Buy a 6X1.00X30mm bolt and nut. Thread the nut on the bolt and install the bolt into the hole that the plug was in. Gently (fingertip pressure only) rotate bolt until it makes contact with the piston. Hold bolt with wrench and tighten locknut against the CCT case. Your CCT will now be silent. Why does this fix work? The CCT in the Hondas does not have a ratcheting mechanism. It depends on a left handed threaded shaft that is spring loaded. Due to the locking pitch thread design this shaft cannot back up. Sounds good so far. Unfortunatly the shaft stays in one place so long that the constant vibration wears out the shaft or the nut that the shaft rides in. The shaft gets sloppy and does not exert enough pressure on the chain pad so the chain starts to rattle at high rpm. The bolt fix exerts just enough pressure on the threaded shaft that it prevents the shaft from vibrating and backing up thus eliminating the chain noise. Yes you will have to adjust the bolt eventually but so far I have no historical data as to how long the time intervals are in between adjustments. Maybe some of you big milege people can provide the data. Any way, hope it prevents you from buying a new CCT. Latest data, the cheap fix has been working for at least 60K miles in a Honda F4
note: my rear CCT leaked a couple drops of oil since it's facing downward so I put a small amount of gasket sealant made by loctite and it stopped. Also I used the little flat washers that you remove with the bolt. you don't have to worry about what position the pistons/timing are in or anything other than what it tells you above.
Yes, I'll call again Tuesday morn.
still just going to voicemail.
did mention again that y'all would appreciate some communication.

How many miles on your bike?

Just curious...
Oil changed around 6500. My riding is about 50-50. Commuting to work during the week, weekend blasts with my buddys. It hasnt been unused but i am only riding local around my small city because im afraid of catastrophe.Paid truck for ccts but he seems to be on hiatus or whatever sooo... just trying keep my bike healthy you know? Iwas going to change everything and do a major tune up session when i received my ccts but im kinda stuck now. anyone know if the bolt quick fix described above works on a 2000 hawk?
FWIW;
I think it a waste of time trying to nail down the hows and whys of the CCTs.
My front cylinder starting rattling at 5k miles without ever having gone over 2k miles without an oil and filter change.
When I pulled the front CCT thousands of miles later there was a nice sheen of oil on the shaft.
Could that front chain have kept rattling away for tens of thousands of miles without jumping the sprockets? I wasn't willing to find out. Getting rid of the damn noise alone made me glad I replaced it.

Ha! Ha!. A few thousand $ collected for CCTs and fork braces goes a long way in old Mexico! And surgery is like 20 cents on the dollar compared to USA!
Somebody said he's too busy on a streetfighter site to post here. I don't think folks are jealous about where he's posting, they just want a heads up on when they'll get the part they already paid for.
I don't know him from a hole in the wall. Lots of folks think he's straight up and I'll take their word for it.
Maybe it's 'cause I'm not twenty years old anymore, but if folks wanted to know what's up with the part they paid me for 3 weeks ago, I'd take 30 seconds to answer them.

I'm just going to be a little more patient before i start seeking some action. I can always jumpseat free of charge when the time comes. I would just like a response to my email and let me know when they are going to ship!
The first part of my post you quoted was for fun, goofing on what others said.
The last sentence was serious. Anybody running their own business (like me, for instance) will tell you the most important thing from both a personal integrity stand point as well as a business stand point?
You respond to the problems/questions of your clients and customers as soon as humanly possible.

Agread, thats why i waited awhile before i delt with him. Seemed to be doing ok, so i made a deal with him and then all of a sudden i cant get a hold of him like the others. I own a aircraft business on the side and my customers always come first or they probably would not come back no matter how good i am!

lets remember this guy isn't exactly a seasoned veteran. he's young. the young are erratic. they don't know those unspoken business policies. there are those on the forum who know him. I'm relying on their opinion. if they say he's straight, then that's good enough for now. I want to order a forkbrace too. but if the kid is having problems, then I can wait a little longer.
OK guys, I finally got a hold of him tonite. He's still very immobile and just getting his comp problems worked out. I made it very clear what he needed to do.
Finished the bolt swap on the end of the tensioner but its too late to fire up the hawk and let it idle. Will test tomorrow. also, in my crusade to make sure i got the lock nut tight enough i caved in the washer that was on the original bolt slightly. is this going to be a problem? I tightened the bolt with my fingers until it stopped and thats it. I put just a tiny bit of finger pressure on it at that point but nothing much at all. Will report tomorrow.
Chill
What is the rush? I will assume you are in Tampa (go bucks, whaoooh...). It seems like it has been raining every flipping weekend for four months up here in GA. I know what you mean, but remain patient my friend for the CCTs and sunshine will soon be upon us. Please, anyone listening?

like I said, it's worth a shot for the little bit of time and effort to discover if that's your problem or if you must look elsewhere. should be fine.

Morse code is not required. Pounding on your keyboard will prob not make it through either. In today's world you have to type. If not, the master communicators will prob show up at your door - pound a pipe up your *** and beat on your back until somebody answers back.

To be honest I've become slightly irritated. He cashed my check about a month ago. Since then I haven't seen any communication of any kind and still no brace. By the sounds of it he's got a lot on his table and I guess he really is trying do do a lot of us a favor. But one lousy post to explain how things are going would make all the difference in the world.
