anybody runs BS BT-021?

Does anybody here has opinion about BT-021 on SH?

Currently I have a set of BS BT-014, one before Pilot Road.
I have never purchased touring tires in past 10 years on VFR & VTR.
Some people define pilot road as touring tire, others say sports category. If BT021 is similer to Pilot road, I have no problem buying BT-021.

my friend, who is one of fastest guy in group on mid '90s VFR750, told me he always buy sports touring tires becuse longer life. In his opinion, unlike 80's to mid 90's sport touring tires, new sports touring tires are very good grip on mid shoulder to edge (softer compound?) center is harder = longer life.

My concern - is it grippy enough to take VTR?

I enjoy aggressive exit of cornering (wide open throttle as soon as I see exit).
I can use pretty much all the tread with some rough surface from melt rubber?
nothing like track day guys. = I can lean to use edge of tire, but maybe not as hard as expert guys.

Any sports touring tires feedback appreciated. Thanks

Well when they are heated up they grip enough to scrape your exhaust and drag a knee on the track, full throttle, well use with care, but yes it holds.

I run them & like them alot. I bought them for their wet traction (which is great). They seem to be of good linear turn-in, not as triangular as sporty dunlops but stable all the way to full lean. I dont really hammer them but am an expert racer (CCS). I think they offer good grip & dont think you will easily overwhelm them. I would say get them. I would buy them again. You can get good deals from chapparral.

I'm not sure about the BT-021's but the BT-016 is a triple compond rear and dual compound front. like you said, relatively hard in the middle and softer on the outside. I've been running a set since late last season and so far I'm very satisfied with them. Excellent cornering ability. They were supringly afforadable also. I usually get my stuff from Bike Bandit.

It is very nice to hear.
About your comment on initial lean - my frined described as very linear.
Let break lever go and change direction and lean very smooth on his VFR(his VFR is prior to F&R syncro brake). not sticky feel on some of super sports tire - just like you comment.

I am 40yo daddy rider - enjoy sound and feel of v-twin corning. (especially good day) maybe my riding skill and conering speed = ok.

wide open at exit of turn, but from around 4000rpm, not 6~7000rpm.
I was told consistant accellation make bike stable and turns/feels stronger and I feel it!! I think that is what I like about SH.

So far sounds really good, much cheaper than Pilot sports or Metzeler M3.

Thanks for your recommendation for BT-016.
I think BT-021 use harder rubber at center of tire, at least I was told 021 has longer life.

Actually, It was my first choice because of the gripping power.
I live in central Ohio and SE Ohio is the place I enjoy riding which is about 60~70 miles of flat land to get hreal twisties.

I ride about 10K a year (APR - SEP) so BT-016 is great, but maybe need 2 sets per year....then I start listening about BT-021.
I used to think 021 is for FJR1300, ST1300 or BMW kind of bike.....

I will check out Chaparral web.

I used to shop at Chaparrel when I was in So cal, but ironpony in Columbus is competitive price, considering shipping cost, and they mount and balance while I wait.

Thanks for sharing the iinfo.

Running the BT021's and love them. Haven't had a chance to finish a set out so i have no idea how long they will last, but they've definitely impressed me with how well they grip... even compared to the Pilot Powers I was running. highly recommended!

I bought them from southwest Moto Tires.... also highly recommended!

I get 7000 Miles from a rear BT-21 and if you stretch their life, you can get up to 9000 Miles

7000~9000 mi is great on SH.

Just curious, which front tire did you have with BT-021 rear?

Right now I'm running BT-021s on the rear and BT-016s on the front.

The last couple 021s I got 7-8k miles on the rear. This one will be toast after today's 2-3 hour ride is over - only got 5,500 miles on this one, but it's been run pretty hard on a lot of sport rides.

The 016 has been on about 1,000 miles. Really nice linear tire. Precise. I have my doubts for wet weather & loose surfaces as the 016 has very little void tread area to flush away water, sand, etc.

All in all I like the 016/021 combo a lot.

I had a BT-20, the BT-21 ancestor, but it's messed up (bumpy), I'm going to get a BT-16 too.
I can deal with rear slides, not the front, so I want more grip ahead and get my warning from the back.
But...
There is a little disadvantage from a grippy front tire, it does not forgive tankslappers, it's a highside almost automatically, I would get a damper to go over sane speeds or full sized tracks and ditch it as soon as the wear pattern looks bumpy.
The low grip of my BT-20 saved my butt once, I'm not forgetting this.

I too am running 021's.. I put them on shortly after getting my shawk, so I have probably put about 4,000 miles on them.. I bought them from Motosport for $225 shipped.. I have had the rear dance a bit on me when they were cold on tight lower speed corners, but no problems when up to temp. Keep in mind I like to have fun but dont try and be a hero in the twisties, I stay in my comfort zone.. I dont realy have anything to compare them to, but i bought them for the good price and high mileage, and so far i have no complaints..

Thanks for all of your adviceand comment,
I got BT-021 rear and peeled skin off by low speed "8"
took to my favorite spot, air 42psi, and did very well. no complain about grip. I used to let air out to arond 30~32 psi on B T-014.
so maybe not exact same set up, but BT-021 felt smoothier.

for front BT-016 andf BT-021, both sound good.

what is "tankslappers"?

Are you talking about rear wheel hopping under hard braking?

I know it is not what you are saying, but
Only highside I have experienced (actually twice on same cause) is high gripped tires hard braking rear locked and I, stupid of me, released rear brake and throw me off, (I do not know exactly what happened after twitched). not violent highside, but more dramatic than lowsided.

I am running them right now, I have put about 1500 miles on them since putting them on, and I really enjoy the way they make the bike feel. If warmed up, they offer great traction, only have there been those few times when I felt the rear slide when exiting a corner, and thats been when the bike has been running less than 5 minutes, so I don't fault them for that.

My father is running them on his FJ1300, and he was just in the Ozarks, and enjoyed them a lot, and was even more impressed when he and a friend had to ride all day to get back, so they pounded the interstates, and arrived home with no flat spot on the rear or front!

hello ohio hawk rider!!

thanks for your advice, I am little older now, 40yo bitch!! LOL, and have little kids so I can't be so brave on twisties lol.
I do 555, you know SE ohio, but it is more like trainig for little technical road. so as 536.

When I was 16~17, i was on Yamaha TZR250, 2 stroke 250cc replica in 80's and yes, I thought I was Freddie, Wayne or Eddie.. LOL.
crashed severl times trying to keep up faster friends.

I can do ok on 78, west of 555 east of Nelsonville. - I can really enjoy there. also 56, 374, 664 hocking hills.

BT-021 did fine for my riding level.
felt little slide on some tight corner, but I am assueming from brand new tire. even i tried to peel the 1st layer by low gear "8"

A tankslapper is a wobble so hard that the steering is hitting it's lock on both sides, it happened to me at 120 MPH, bad suspension setup, bad front tire, tired head bearings and the VTR soft frame caused this, no warning at all.
The front let go, I left a S shaped black mark on the ground, it's rare, but need to be avoided with grippy tires other than that it's just improvement for performance and safety, I just felt that it needs to be known.

I've seen them on other bikes, and you can get this wear pattern where you end up with a ridge in the center of the tire.

I may give them a shot though (or the BT016) if I'm not pleased with these Mich PR2s.

As for cornering, the sides are still soft. I'm not sure how soft as the tire manufacturers don't publish durometer readings.

Best price I have found for the BT-016 is on www.Parts411.com $134 for the rear.

When I have the money, this will be my tire of choice.

wow, so you are riding at 120mph on straight?
or under hard braking from 120mph?
