ahhh powerwheelie!
Pulled my first power wheelie over the weekend with out really trying too. Just let it rip through 1st,2nd, & 3rd. Came up top of 2nd. Sure did feel good but won't be making this a habit. Safely finished off the adrenaline rush with a thrashing on the 250r three wheeler. Put a smile on my face. Tim

first time i ALMOST pulled a wheelie was when a dog started to bark and I wanted to slowly approach him and then dodge him by accelerating...NOT a smart move for me.
correct me if i'm wrong, but: the VTR seems easier to wheelie, but harder to maintain it in a wheelie than a 4L (like a 600RR etc)...you got to be careful with the throttle..it's very sensitive

That's known as torque which the SH produces plenty of. Cover your rear brake and clutch if you must wheelie.
yup these bikes come up fast if you arent careful. i remember my first wheelie. it was a nice day out, i rolled on too much throttle. pooped a little. now i work on holding them longer and longer. first gear wheelies are fun cause the bike will just come up with a little throttle. as mentioned above, cover the back brake itll come in handy if your brain looses communication with your right hand
Torque Wheelies
The first of many would be my guess. Most starts and New England back road hills require lifting the front to one degree or another! More fun than an RC 51 in the real world any day. R1 comes close but causes too much temptation at high speed; where mistakes are jot an optionn.
Sometimes when I'm coming out of an uphill right-hander hot in 3rd, then I crack it wide open before I straighten up, I feel the front get real light. I don't know if it's lifting, but it sure feels good. That's what these bikes are all about and why I love it so much.
I'm not sure what it with my bike/me. If im in the meat of the power 5-7k and thry and clutch in 2nd it won't come up. perhaps it's just me but could it be 60k on the clutch and springs? btw I only weight ~160....
either way I read on the vtr1000.org that the stock clutch springs are kind of weak and culprit in lousy take-offs and chatter and replacing with barnett springs was recommended.
