? about slider bolts
bought some sliders from a member on here. they were taken off of a superhawk so i know they will fit. but my stock bolts will not fit throught the slider bracket heres a pic
question is, can i go to lowes and pick up some bolt with the same thread and lenth but just with a smaller head. will store bought bolt from lowes be strong enough?

You have to get some a little longer. Don't know why the guy would sell you the sliders and not send the correct bolts. Yes you'll need longer and if Lowe's has the longer ones in the correct thread pitch they should fine for strength.

For obvious reasons your stock bolts will be too short, too start with... And "fit through" I'm guessin there is a recess for the bolthead that you are thinking of?
Get allen head bolts, 12.9 quality... Nothing else... If they arent marked they are junk... I cant remember the lenght but measure your bolts and add the thickness of the slider bracket...
And remember, longer is not better, you might bottom the bolt out and harm something when torquing it, so get the right lenght...

was looking at sliders on ebay and saw this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CARBO...ts_Accessories
carbon fiber frame slider protector... thought the slider was the protector. and i dont see that flimsy carbon fiber standing much of a chance if someone was to go down

3 1/8 for the right - brake side
4 for the left - clutch side
BTW - I am the guilty party that sold him the slider. Didn't even realized that he needed it.... These came with the bike from PO and had no idea...Will send them to him if he can't find locally

You are only gonna find those bolts at a motorcylcle shop in their old stock of bolts. (& maybe not even there) Just have this fine gentleman that sold you the sliders send you the bolts. Off the shelf stuff is not strong enuff; these are motor mounts. Using inferior bolts can only lead to great unhappiness

I still say 12.9 allen head bolts are the right application for this... There is a reason they come with that when sold...

Well... I'm not sure what the point of your post was... I know how the metric/European system works, but the links for US vs Metric was useful too me...

I'm always happy to be of service. We Yanks some day will get on board with the metric system, which I prefer being an engineer though I still can't do all the conversions in my head. However, similar to Great Britain (merry old England) not adopting the Euro, I do like the fact that we still march to a different Yankee doodle drummer about a lot of things. Particularly not jumping on board with globalization of vehicular standards and gun control which I think threaten the personal liberties this nation was founded on and inherent in my DNA anyway.

Slider bolt size
kj4kym,
I just purchased a set of T-Rex sliders for my VTR. This is what came in the kit:
(1) Two off-set adapters
(2) One M10x110mm bolt
(3) One M10x100mm bolt
(4) Two M10x60mm bolts
(5) Two composite delrin sliders
The two M10x60mm bolts fasten the sliders to the off-set adapters. You will need to purchase a M10x110 (class 12.9 ONLY) bolt to fasten a slider to the left side of the bike. You will also need to purchase a M10x100 (class 12.9 ONLY) bolt to fast a slider to the right side of the bike. You'll also want to get a flat washer to put under the head of both bolts.
You aren't likely to find these bolts in any store unless they specialize in providing specialized hardware/fasteners. Class 12.9 bolts are typically only used in special applications like the automotive industry so they aren't readily available. You must get class 12.9 bolts because anything lower is too weak. Your best option is to order them from McMaster-Carr. The part numbers you'll want from McMaster are 91290A548 and 91290A550.
The stock bolts are M10x90 and M10x75. To ensure you need a 110mm and 100mm length bolts measure the thickness of the off-set adapter and add that thickness to 75mm & 90mm. You'll probably get a numbers around 100mm and 110mm.
Hope this was helpful.

thanks guys, but i cant seem to get the left side bolt out. i can loosen a get it out about and inch but then it just starts binding and im kinda afraid to just keep torqing on it. maybe ill just go without the sliders
#27
Go without sliders? Good thing your helmet wasnt hard to get on or you'd go without that too, nancy? The bolt is an enging mount so try applying judicious lift under the motor to relieve binding. Maybe spray some wd40 or liquid wrench to ease it out. You started the slider project because its the smart choice, dont fold now penelope.....
