About to buy my first! Help please.

Hello from Lake Tahoe. I am going to check out a 98 vtr1000 this afternoon with 27k on it. It doesn' have any of the plasctics on it but the price is right( less than 2k). I was wondering of you guys give me some things to keep an eye on while I am looking at it and some of the other standard issues that come along with it. Also this will be my first sport bike. I have ridden on dirt all my life, and currently have an 83 cx650c. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

The two things that go on these bikes are the R/R and the CCT's. Other than that, has it had regular oil changes, valves done at appropriate times, etc. and is everything straight and it ride well?

NOT SURE ABOUT THE R/R THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO THE CHARGING. CCT I THINK IS THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER.

yeah i just replaced my cam chain tensioners cuz the rear one started making noise. It is fairly easy to tell when its going bad. my symptoms were - almost no noise when bike is cold, as it warms up there is a slight clanking of the chain at idle. would get really bad at 2500-3k rpms but would quiet down after 3k. it would also make some ticking and clanking noise on deleceration using the motor.

the job to replace it was fairly easy due to a really good write-up availabe on this forum. i used a different method of adjusting it and removed the valve covers, it was more difficult but it gave me peice of mind

going from dirt to street is better than nothing cuz you know how the clutch works and such. there is less room for error on street and the response of the bike is often much quicker. be careful when taking off and not giving it too much throttle cuz the tires wont spin out but launch you really fast, but no big deal just take it easy at first.

also when leaning, often times dirt bike riders tend to lean their bike into a turn but lean their body away from it a little to kinda balance it, on the street, just lean with the bike and dont put your foot out

My temp gauge is consestently just over the 1/4 mark, and if it gets near the halfway mark I think its getting hot. There are ducts in the fairing leading to the radiators.

already naked? I prefer scantily clad,Thats a matter of taste. Why no plastics?.If its been changed into a naked bike for fun, thats one thing. If its been wreaked thats another.Does it have a headlight?

Plenty have been run totally naked (no fairings) so the fairings are not needed to stay cool.
