I would do a couple of things first.....
1. I would indicate where I am at, meaning you live, so forum members can help you locally.
2. I would look longer or harder for something else in those price ranges.
3. I would find a used VTR Superhawk available in all price ranges.
4. I would contact me if you live in Southern California.
Good Luck
Sean

I'm quite partial to my '97. Last of the carbs, clean pipes all the way back. This bitch knows how to breathe. Not like a Superhawk but in it's own way. . . bigger. I just turned my stocker over 12K. The mods will begin soon. Weight reduction will be part of the initial clean-up.
I owned a 98 briefly. Liked the throttle response of the fi but could not get over the butt-ugly bodywork.

Yeah while the vfr is cool I can't imagine you not making a good choice with the blackbird. While I've never owned, or even been lucky enough to ride a blackbird, I did own '00 ZX12, and it still just seems so beyond anything else I've ever ridden, and not only powerwise (though spinning the wheel up at 80 getting on the highway is enough in itself ). And as much as I liked the zx12 I can only imagine the blackbird being even more refined. In the real world I'm sure it'll go just as fast too, it's just a matter of twisting the throttle a few degrees more. Be safe! Post up some pics and congrats.

The locals around here dislike them...
I have tried telling them that the two local one's might not be representative of the model as a whole... But it doesn't seem to help much as they dislike being passed in corners...
The two bikes in question are mine and a VTR built with Mori engine parts (~130 rwhp) and 900RR forks... It leaves me on the straight parts... I need more power...

Post the pics on the CBR forum, we all know what they look like.
