6-pot brake install

aight so I got the brakes from superbling today and just got done installing them and bleeding them with my vacuum pump. Went out to try them and.... nothing... they work 100x worse then my others.... so... I guess that means probably air in the lines??? that's all I can kind've think of...

Did you do the master and the calipers? Try starting at the master, lossen the bolt just enough to get fluid out when you squeeze the lever. Squeeze the lever till it bottoms very slowly, keeping it down close the bolt. Release and repeat until you have feel, then move to the caliper furthest from the master. Get all air out and move to the other one and do the same. I usually do it by hand give it three slow pumps and open the bleeder and repeat. It's always safe to bleed to much to make sure it's all out just don't let the res. empty. Hope this helps, good luck.

That's strange, is the lever mushy or hard when braking? Are the pads new, did you get any thing on the pads or rotors? They should stop great.

Yeah, is the lever mushy or firm?

My first thought is air still in the lines; especially since you had to start from scratch. Try a "check for bubbles" bleed without the pump. I find pumps are great for moving large amounts of fluid and sometimes air too.

Two other things, lock the brake lever down with a ziptie or similar overnight with the bars turned to the left. That can get the last bubbles out to. Also, maybe try the other pads to eliminate that possiblity. OK, here's a third thing; the copper crush washers might need replacing if it gets better but re-occurs.

well marmalade said if brake fluid got on them then I can kiss them goodbye... and brake fluid got everywhere. I cleaned everything up when I first got the package. I have these galfers that superbling sent too but I'm not sure they were safe either

That's why I asked if you got anything on them, if they were soaked, throw'em away. For the price of pads it's not worth it unless they didn't get anything on them (the Galfers).

You can clean the rotors of any brake fluid. But the pads will sop it right up.

Let me know if you're disappointed in them. I'll take 'em off your hands.

Once they're working properly I'll love them. I thinkt he pads do need to be replaced. Just didn't seem to want to grab

Sorry I guess I should've split that up, I was laughing at your eagerness and reinforcing the thought about the pads.

What are you running for a master cylinder. Your stock hawk MC might not push as much fluid as the 6 potters need. I would suggest you run the matching MC.

Good suggestion but I ran mine with the superhawk master before and it stopped great. Oh and I'm pretty sure he bought the whole thing, master and calipers.

I'm using the MC that superbling sent me. it's not the stock one. I spent the last couple hours checking things and completely rebleeding the system and still same results as yesterday.. I'm so ******* frustrated right now. The handle feels mushy where before with the old brakes it'd hit the rotor and I could feel it grab real hard... I don't think the pads on the calipers were ruined btw. I could be wrong though...

one issue I'm having and not sure if it's contributing to all of this is I had to seperate the pads some to get them to fit on the rotors. So seating them again so they'll be the perfect distance to grab is beyond me, I just pumped the brakes slowly till it grabs *shrug* I really have no clue how to do that

Because I'm a cheap bast'ad, I use a large syringe from a feedstore with a small piece of hose to "bleed" the brakes/clutch. Leave some room in the reservoir and inject fluid in from the fitting. Has always worked for me.

well I'm pretty sure it was the pads ******* me over. I put on the galfers which had fluid on them too but they stopped better then the ones on the calipers. so I ordered new pads and hopefully once those are on it'll stop even better

That's what I was thinking since you said it wasn't grabbing.

the new ebc HH pads got thrown on today and I noticed an immediate improvement once I felt the pads themselves cause they felt grainy and not a greasy type feeling that the others had. got the fronts on and rears. should be awesome once they're completely bedded in
