Did ALL 1999 black models have the decals on the Fairings ? waiting to hear from previous owner why mine doesn't . Thanks

 

I think every Superhawk manufactured has Superhawk 996 on the side - no matter what the color of the bike. If yours are gone the bike has probably been painted. I way one guy that was going to be clever and remove the decal with an eraser wheel and totally fucked up the clear coat - it looked horrible. Some painters prefer to put the decals on before the final clear coat is shot. This is a great idea for several reasons but the Superhawks were not painted that way. The decal sits right on top. I put all new fairings on last winter and they are the same as the OEM's that I replaced. No change in the paint methods.

 

Only the tank wing is under the clear coat, the rest can easily be peeled off with the aid of a hair dryer (leaves no sticky residue behind).

 

That's right, Doug! I've never tried it but I understand that it works best with two guys. The guy that does it for one of the local bike shops uses a little Goo-Gone after removing the decal to clean up any adhesive that might be left behind.

 

Thanks , I got hold of the previous owner and he admitted he took them off cause he thought they looked "cheesy" .
