Watch those Guard Rails
#4
I got rear ended on my way to work on my Vulcan 800 this morning. It was my first accident. Thank god it was nothing serious... we just traded paint at an offramp stop light. THANK GOD. We traded insurance information, and the only damage to my cruiser is cosmetic (paint).
I was kinda freaked out... the first thing I thought about was selling my bike... but then I figured I was over reacting.
Sorry for the thread jack, but it's related, and I feel better... really sorry for the thread jack.
( A shaken, not stirred),

I wonder why I watch videos like this. I guess I hope I might learn something but usually I just have things I already knew confirmed: look where you want to go, don't go fast if you don't know the road, remember your passenger's life is in your hands, etc.
Sometimes I want to see if the disaster was avoidable. I want to be able to say the rider wouldn't have gotten into a bad situation if he hadn't done this or that or I want to reassure myself that it wouldn't happen to me because I wouldn't do anything that stupid.
Some of the most wonderful moments of my life happened on a motorcycle but I know a great ride can change to tragedy in an instant. It's a good thing to remind myself of this but it's also awful knowing that what reminded me was seeing the suffering of others.

Very well stated. I totally agree.

What brilliant bastard invented guardrails?
I have been in three or 4 situations when that could easily have happened to me. Misjudged turns with a tad to much speed. Gravel & sand just ups the ante.

while the thought of that sort of accident is very sobering, after watching that video, I have to wonder if it was real. There didn't seem to be that much blood around the scene after someone had their leg ripped off, not to mention the amount of trauma she sustained ...

I'm not even going to watch it.
I can't begin to express how lucky and blessed I feel to have gotten away with a couple of days in the hospital, a reconstructed collarbone, a few busted ribs and a few weeks of Norco haze. With no lasting effects. Hard to believe, actually. I wish I could remember what happened.
Be careful out there. And listen to that little voice in your head. Ignoring it is going to be trouble one day.
