A novel experience.
A novel experience.
I'm sure some of the older guys will get a kick outta this.
I've been a car guy for about the past 5 years, I'm only 19, so it's a significant part of my life to say the least.
When I first got my truck, I did everything imaginable to it to make it faster; a waste of money as I see it now. That thing flies like a brick.
Right after I turned 17, my dad and I bought a wrecked 2008 mustang Bullitt as a project. That was my first real experience with a full-blown rebuild. I thought that car was the fastest thing on the road for awhile, as every 17 year old thinks about their car. All my friends used to comment on how fast and torquey it was. By no means is she slow, but I got some new perspective today.
My 'Hawk is my first motorcycle. I bought it in early June, and I've been riding it since. I was a pretty scared rider at first, I knew the VTRs had a ton of torque, like any v-twin, and a ton a power, like any 1000cc bike would. The first time I rode the bike, I stalled it about 10 times in a row. Since then I've gotten the hang of the daily driving on it, but as I was learning how to drive, I began to read through these forums and saw the problems with the CCTs. I decided I would replace them, and I wouldn't be pushing the limits on my bike until then. Well, today was the day I finally got the CCTs installed, and the first time I've gotten the bike over about 5k.
I about pissed my pants.
I've ridden in Lambos, and a few cars than could easily outrun the 'Hawks, but I was completely unprepared to pulling that type of acceleration without a racing seat behind me.
That type of fun is going to be quite addicting.
Just thought I'd share this one with you guys.

Now go book a trackday, and find out why us track nuts don't need no stinking drugs...
Be careful!
And thanks for sharing your story. You don't write like the average 19 year old. (meaning, you use proper English). You just gave me a moment of hope of a better future.
Learn your bike slowly. Enjoy.

It's because I'm a total grammar ****. I'll correct just about anyone if their grammar is bad enough.
cool story. Glad to hear that you are enjoying it. But by the sound of it you don't have any formal rider training (correct me if I"m wrong). I used to teach for 5 yrs and I know that training is not a guarantee of anything. Training just gives you tools which you can build upon. rather it is your attitude that will determine what you do with the training and whether you will have better odds at a long and happy lifetime of riding. I'm 11 years into riding now. I started when I was 16 and eligible for a license and training and my parents couldnt stop me
It is attidude that gets you there imo with skill nonetheless and a little luck... enjoy!
