Motorcycle Drifting

Not a SH or even a Honda for that matter, but I was really impressed with this video....even though the bike has a ghey extended swing arm it's actually functional in this setting. Got this from a bikebandit.com facebook post, hope its not a repost.

I don't think an extended swingarm is ghey... Blinging a perfectly good bike out to where it's almost unrideable is... Adding a friggin trucktire to the rear end is...

If you extend the bike the change it's handling with a specific goal in mind, like dragracing, or here to get stability for drifting, then I give it a definete thumbs up...

I should, since I have essentially done the same to my bike by swapping on an SP2 swingarm...

That was awesome. I'm a big fan of drifting. I worked at an import performance shop in MD and the owner competed in D1 and Formula Drift series. I've been building a 1JZ-GTE powered 1984 Celica GT-S to drift in.

To each their own ! Neat video- Yet truly a waste of tires, machines, and to think, neither bike or car never reached any real M.P.H. speed...

I would been more impressed, IF they would have been drifting a Dump Truck....

I dont care what you are drifting... Drifting a bike in front of an out of control car at 60 mph around a corner with one hand on the grip while turning your head is some serious talent! By far one of the coolest vids ive seen in a long time.

Haha, by that logic, racing in general has no point. And we'd all ride scooters around town and there'd be no such thing as water slides

I can and have done that while going ***** out, and I have been known to do some drifting... Never occured to me to try to combine the two... I'm pretty sure I'd end up in a ditch somewhere...

There's a difference between racing (genuine competition) and stunting/showing off. Of course, there is always the logical second step: "since we're showing off, why don't we compete at who can show off the best". I hear half-pipe does well in winter olympic ratings...

Actually no, not really... The practical applications for going very fast on a squiggly track on a bike aren't that much more promising than the same for doing it while sideways... Neither has a practical application... Neither needs one in my opinion...

But then again, I do both... On two wheels and four, just as often as I get the chance...

Actually, yes, really. Squiggly track not withstanding, the practical applications for a show of top speed, sustained speed, endurance etc. was a showcase for manufacturers. Racing improves the breed...

Um... actually no, really...

I said "practical application"... I know, I was mean and tricked you... But I like tricking people... There really are no practical application for a racebike...

And no, improving roadbikes isn't a valid answer... The roadbikes surpassed any practial need long time ago, and even in their most "practical" sense, they aren't that practical, there are several other ways of doing what they can do, better in that sense...

Not even in terms of fuel efficiency the bikes have any valid application, since they tend to follow cars, with tech that's already been tested on something with 4 wheels...

Their only real use is for having fun, on road or track... Doesn't change the fact that I like them, I just see them for what they are... Toys...

Haha, I wasn't knocking racing or anything man, just having fun. You'd have a hard time convincing me that if I had only one set of tires that it would be practical to run a trackday or two on them though... I'd rather use them to get to work and back for the next 6 months

Hmmm...I'm not sure how we got "off track" here. I'm not a proponant or detractor of racing; it's been decades since I've raced in an organized event.

My bike is for pleasure riding and an occasional commute to a work site.

Tweety. I meant motor vehicle racing started as a way to see who was "better" between two drivers/riders and their vehicles and to test "practical" applications for the vehicles such as speed, endurance, etc.
I'm sure the first footrace started the same way. Manufacterers used to sponsor races; this led to towns and cities holding events (usually in conjunction with an existing celebration), then came fixed facilities and tracks (Indy, Nurburgring).
The "funny" stuff like drifting, stunting and monster trucks crushing other vehicles, came later, usually after someone got drunk.

And renaissance festivals and water parks! All great entertainment, but make even more sense when alcohol is involved.

Maybe motorcycle renaissance festivals- I bet jousting could get interesting real fast.

Neither am I, the difference being that I do race in organized events, but only on four wheels (I do trackdays, but no racing on the bike)

I get what you are saying... I'm just saying that bikes in general aren't really practical... And racing them to improve bikes is a self fulfilling goal, ie not a practical application...

I like racing, but 2 or 4 wheels doesn't matter, if you look at it critically and without preconceptions, there are no practical reason... At one point car racing did influence road cars, now tech developed on the road trickles down to the racetrack, based on the fact that rules say what you can and can't change on a racecar/bike...

And while I'm not about to take part in any organised drifting events, I have no reservations on laying a darkie as I pass a slow moving bike, just to rub it in... And on 4 wheels, with the car I'm driving, it's more of a challenge not to drift it...

I would love a poster sized print of him touching the pavement in the corner while drifting and the car drifting in the background. My favorite part of the video.

The RC camera rig. Anyone watch CORR? They put them on the down side of the jumps, and move them occasionally.

Ever been to a Hog Rally? Jousting and more..........and I do believe alcohol plays a minor part in the festivities.

That combo requires the concentration of a Buddhist monk. Something I'm a bit lacking.
