I might ha e mentioned a while that I was working on a diy ebike with a co worker.

We call it the eBR600 and it uses a ford hybrid battery that's disassembled and restacked to make it 48 volt. Motor is. A secret for now but I will say that it uses canbus and right now does 65 mph and accelerates like a parallel twin 650. It's direct drive at the moment but I have plans to use a 3 speed transmission and clutch plus a few other cool things to extend range. First test did 30 miles no issues.

Next bike is the eTR1000 Superhawk!

My buddy and I thought about doing this as a senior design project in college on a Honda VF1100S Sabre platform, then remembered we'd have to wait for electricity to be discovered first.

It's ok if you gave me technical details I probably wouldn't know what the hell you're talking about anyway LOL. That's one of the coolest things I've seen on here in a long time.

 

Well, it's a 15kw brushless with regen braking. Next step is removing the rear brake and one of the fronts. After that a belt drive and ceramic bearings. It turned out pretty good I think. If you have a donor bike you can put this together for well under 2k

Did you build your own controller?

 

It's a surprisingly easy thing to do. Restacking the battery is the most time consuming. A parts are commercially available as a kit or separately, the battery is only available used all by itself. I hAve another idea though to turn a regular bike into a hybrid. That's totally top secret though.

That would be something that can interest allot more people that dismiss ebikes due to distance. I would love to hear more, even though it's a secret ;-)
