I just got a used gauge cluster for a 2007 ZZR600 that has lower mileage than what the bike actually has. I need to add ~3,700 miles to the gauge to make it accurate. Normally I wouldn't care, but I'm selling it... so I don't want an odometer discrepancy to come up on the title.

I was thinking I could pull the speed sensor, hook up a magnet to a Dremel, and let it go.... but I'm not sure that would work..... plus, I'd like to find an easier way.

Anybody....?

 

If you have any electronics geeks around a signal generator pumpin out a sine wave should do the trick... The signal from the sensor is basicly a 0-5V sine wave...

 

or you can contact your local dmv and notify them of the guage change.

there are spots on the title form , mileage shown & actual milage.

I can't remember where I saw it but someone used to sell an trailer attachment..... It attached your speedo/odometer to the trailer axle so that the miles the the trailer traveled would show on the bike. It was marketed so that you could trailer your 'all show, no go' Harley to the show/rally/event but not look like a poser with no miles on your bike once you got there!!! Brilliant ehh??

Didn't really understand the concept of paying for a device that further devalues your bike, but then I also don't have ape hangers on the Hawk!!!

 

Not a Superhawk but, I tried rigging up something when I bought my demo BMW 1150GS from a dealership I worked at. It was January and I'd get a factory 6% discount after 750 miles. Mechanically driven, could have been done with a flat head screw driver bit in an air drill but turned out easire just to fake the paperwork. Only had to try to fool the floor-plan auditors.

I used to sell cars and have to agree I have seen the same thing on the DMV form, like either "beyond mechanical limits" or something to that effect. Go to your state DMV site and check it out.

 

WOW, they will go to all of this trouble to not ride the bike.

My advice to them would be buy a bike that you enjoy to ride!

 

It will put an odometer discrepancy on the title... this is what I'm trying to avoid.
