WTB Voltage Regulator for 98 or similar VTR1000

Just what it says. Mine charges at 14V but when you give it gas it drops to 13.

I'd suggest one from a later SH that has the cooling fins (I know '02 on had them and wiring is the same) or the GSXR modified r/r solution - I would stay away from the early style non finned version.

Only reason I really want one is to run accessories that need more voltage. As far as the bike running it does just fine. Ill keep my eyes peeled for a earlier model version though. Thanks

Regulator/rectifiers work by converting AC to DC and bleeding off the excess as heat. That's why they have fins (at lest the good ones) and why they get hot. They don't work like alternators, which produce AC. By running accessories, you're actually doing your r/r a favor because it has to turn less voltage into heat.

Get a finned one for a F2 F3 or F4 (not F4i), the are identical, and usually much cheaper.

This one = bad, no fins DO NOT GET:

This one = good, has fins, buy or one like it:

Cool, ill get the second one there and he isnt far from me either. My other question or confirmation was am I correct in that it should be doing say 13v or so at idle and when you rev it should climb to 14v? Not the reverse like mine is doing?

Also Im almost certain mine has fins on it now. Isnt it located on the subframe on the brake side of the bike?

That'd be logical, how high are you revving it? And does it drop below measured battery voltage while off?

I don't think that indicates a bad regulator. Download the manual and follow the procedure. Then you'll know before you spend.

That was my point in my earlier post, although I should have fleshed it out a bit. A new r/r won't give more output for running accessories because all the r/r does is regulate the output from the stator. Accessories make the job of the r/r easier by using power that would otherwise be turned into heat by the r/r.
