Just bought a vtr1000 and the PO took of the headlight and put some autozone fogs on it, not to mention lay down the bike soo hard it needs new radiators, but I found some. However it's also naked so I want to fix that.

Do you have a useable fairing stay as well as deep pockets? Unless you can find a useable fairing stay for a cheap price and useable/maybe slightly damaged fairings it might cost you a bit to get the bike clothed again.

I would recommend the full body kit off ebay (chinese) for about $500 give or take, comes with everything except the radiator deflector plates inside the fairings(which I have for a cheap price) and a windscreen... ebay and this forum are your best friend with this one

Well apparently there's a bunch of brackets I need to get first....

 

Those should be easy to get at any Honda dealer I would think

 

There are only 4 primary brackets for the fairings that aren't attached to bike itself. I had to cut mine from the OEM fairings.

As for those and the rails for the mirrors there is a guy on here that is parting out his bike. Might hit him up and see what's still availible.

Down fall to the Ebay kits is they do not come with attachment hardware. You have to buy those separately. You can get those too on ebay. If not you will be making a lot of trips to the hardware store/ local auto store.

Good luck. It's a painful process but we'll worth it in the end.

 

It's called a fairing stay. One that is not cut up looks like this.

The four brackets that hold the sides of the fairing on are in the picture below. Those stainless bolts don't come with brackets.

 

Just curious, but why did you have to cut yours from the fairings? They bolt on, unless the previous owner did something.

I should point out that these brackets are from a '98, and I recently found out that later model (not sure of the exact date) VTR's have this style bracket.

 

i have a 98' i was looking at those on ebay and saw you and like wtf?

 

PO had all of the fairing attachments loctions filled with a rediuclous amount of bondo. Instead of chizziling away the bondo I took the easier path of cutting the stays off and just knocking the bondo into peices with a hammer. Quick round in a sandblaster and added paint and primer and they were good as gold. Replaced the stock bolts with new stainless bolts too.

I was wondering why the surface of your fairings looked odd in the first couple pictures of your build thread.

 

It was mixture of that, horrid texture of paint and a **** poor composite repair to the right side. I spent days polishing off spray paint . I wish I would of got better pictures of the build. She was in horrible condition.
