Vance & Hines S4 Baffle Swap?

Vance & Hines S4 Baffle Swap?
I'm the proud new owner of a '99 'Hawk in pristine condition. The previous owner took meticulous care of it and hung on many top-shelf parts. Its got twin Vance & Hines S4 Titanium bolt ons, which look great and sound awesome, but are too loud for me (and my girlfriend and neighbors). According to V&H, the Ti version came with "race baffles" while the aluminum and stainless versions came with quieter "street baffles." I've asked V&H if they would sell me a pair of the street baffles, they say they only make race baffles now. SOOoooooo... I'm hoping its possible to slide out my race baffles and swap with someone's street baffles, straight across. Anyone know if this is possible? Any takers?

Leo Vince makes a street version that can be very quiet with inserts. It's called the Evo II series.

The baffles aren't interchangeable. They are different sizes. Best you could do is find someone with the aluminum cans and trade cans.

Thanks for the info
Not too eager to drop for a whole new exhaust when I've got a +/-$1,000 system already installed. Good to know I can't swap just the baffles, tho. Thanks. So now I can just tell my girlfriend that I can't swap them out... with every ride, I start to get more addicted to the roar and cackling....

Not exactly the same thing... But I had a pair of Two Brothers mufflers (with the "quite tips") on my Superhawk. One of the cans had been damaged & I replaced the aluminum sleve. The "Quiet Tip" was simply a plate with a 5 to 6 inch tube welded in the center. The plate was located between the core and the endcap and was sized to the inside diamater of the sleve. This held it in place without any hardware. The tube extended into the core about 4 inches and was ~1.5 inches in diameter. A quiet tip wouldn't be all that complicated to make.
BTW... the PO who installed the quite tips had commented that the mufflers were way to loud without them. I can say that with them installed, the bike sounded nice with a low rumble. Not that set-off-car-alarm kind of loud.
If you are interested I can provide a picture of some Staintune quiet inserts. Let me know.

Pics would be fantabulous
I'd heard Vance & Hines support was pretty bad, and they proved it. I didn't think street baffles would be real hard to fab, especially since I was saying I'd pay for them just to make one set. I have a friend that used to work for Flowmaster, and that shop made templates and one-offs often. But no dice here.
Anyway, if I get a pic maybe I can get someone local to weld it up for me.

Dang! What if I throw in an IN n Out Burger?
What's the diameter and I'll measure my stock baffles that I removed...?

Could be the glass packing is shot. When I pulled my Microns apart, the packing looked like swiss cheese. I made up a baffle to weld in and then used stainless wool (125' spool, not pads) to re-wrap with. A lot quieter now, but no one would mistake the sound for stock. Here's a photo of the baffle and the stainless wool after a year of riding. I think it holds up pretty well.

I'm liking the steel wool deal. What "ought" did you use? Can one buy a big spool at Home Depot or some such?

repack
Two brothers has a repacking kit for $20 and it comes with the blanket (steel wool) or what ever it is....and new rivets.

The V&H S4 cans are NOT repackable.
They may look like they come apart, but they dont.
V&H sell repack kits for the S2 cans, but not the S4.
I had a buddy (mechanic) try to re&re the packing on my S4's.
They dont repack.
Buy some earplugs.

Thanks Geoff, you've told me more than Vance & Hines has after two phones calls and two e-mails. I've been trying to get the 1/8" allens loose on the back, penetrating oil, cold, warm, etc., but they just want to strip. So I'll keep 'em. The good news is, the more I ride the thing, the more I like the sounds.

I had to laugh when I saw that picture. Different parts of the state, but it looks like we were on the same road.

Sweet pic
Where was that taken? Southeastern Sierra or mountains around San Diego? Speaking of exhaust, are those Arrow cans on your bike?

I was on a ride in the Santa Monica mountains just up from Malibu. The exhaust is from Micron.
BTW, I can't believe V&H would sell an exhaust that couldn't be re-packed. That's just plain weird.
