Drop the engine for head gasket job?

I've recently come to terms with the fact that I need a head gasket replaced. What should I expect the costs to be? Does the engine need to be dropped, or can the heads be squeezed out of the frame?

Thanks!

RCVTR is an unknown quantity at this point
The heads can be removed with the engine in the frame.
But you'll want to figure out why the head gasket blew and it will be easier to clean and keep things clean with the engine out. Put a Q-tip or something like it in the oil supply port for the cams before you clean anything. It comes up through the block on the cam chain side. Otherwise you could end pumping dirt throught the cam bearings.
