Mechanical seal needed replacing and I had some misfortune.

I used a 3" pvc pipe coupler to support the engine cover while pressing out the impeller.

The old worn impeller is on the left and the one I just took out is on the right. The dealer forgot to put the white ceramic ring on the new impeller.

Here you can compare the new impeller, top, to the old one. The corrosion was caused by coolant getting past the mechanical seal.
