weird wiring issue

i think this problem started the other night, i was on the bike and my high beam wouldnt work. ive got a bi xenon retrofit, and the hi beam is a flap that opens. it would open and then close on its own, and also if i tried to turn it on it would flicker the light and at one point it even shut the light off completely. so i figured i needed to run it off a relay, that was a winter plan.

fast forward to tonite, im out with a buddy of mine, we ride out, i get some gas, and on the way home im leading, by this time it started to get a little dark out, so i took it easy, but when i hit the brakes my headlight would get really dim. let off and its fine, hit them again and dim again. but on ly the front brakes were doing this. my buddy said when i was hitting the brakes my brake lights would flicker and it seems like theyre engaged as if the brakes are on with them not even being on. so i pulled over and checked the connections at the front brake master and it seemed fine, touched it some more and it stopped doing it, thought maybe it was a loose connection as i had those wires off the other day. but when it fixed itself it turned out my brake lights stopped working and along with them the blinkers. that issue was later traced to a popped fuse. question was though, why did the fuse pop? and what the hell can be wrong with the brake lights? i hit the brakes, lights flicker and headlight goes dim.

any ideas on this or where to even start?

the bike has a brand new fully charged battery, it was put in a week ago and is always on a battery tender.

Sounds to me like a positive lead (probably from the brakes) was touching the frame or a ground wire in the harness.

I think you have a grounding/connection problem. Check all your connections, battery, chassis, etc. Check your main fuse. Make sure these are all fine first.

ok thanks guys. ill look into them over the next couple days. i need to pull off the tail as one of my brake lights isnt working, maybe the wire came off that and is causing the issue, but it stopped working in august so i thought the leds popped or something.

+ 1 on this. when you have something get brighter when you switch something else on you have the power going through that light to get to ground. good example headlights on a car one real dim one real bright. nothings 100 % but thats where I would be looking at first. check the ground locations in the manual. Thats jmho

will do thanks again, i just put a new battery in i wonder the ground terminal is touching on something and causing something to happen. ill get into it tonite after work.

you know whats weird about grounds, i had a van when i was ounger, porno van infact, and the ground wire had rubbing the insulating sleeve off a bit and was touching on the chassis, main ground from the battery, anyway it was touching and it would ground out and kill all the power. how the hell does that work, ground wire grounding out on something, lol.
