Question Two noises: Howling and ticking

Hi all,
I have two questions, and looking around the forum has not led me to the answers.

1: I get a howling noise at 25-30 mph range which happens. This happens at the same RPM and only happens in 1st gear. It is dead on; starts at 25 mph and stops at 30 mph. Anyone else have this?

2: I have a ticking noise that I believe sounds like a valve noise. It is responsive to RPMs. My questions is since the valves "tighten up" when they are worn would they create this ticking like on a small block? I have used the all mighty search and found that it could be the starter clutch, but I do not believe that this is the case because it seem to become more predominate after I started riding the bike harder.

Thanks all for the help!
