turn signals inop when cold
 

Hi everyone. Need help with turn signals. If it is above 60 degrees the signals work fine under 60 degrees they wont work at all. I am out of ideas, your help will be appreciated. Thanks and ride safely.

I have the same problem, but they work, just delayed in operation. Usually start blinking about when I'm already in the process of turning. I am going to order a new relay next time I buy some parts to be safe.

Hey Rick, funny you posted this today. I rode the Hawk to work (very low 30's) this morning and for the first time, mine delayed just like letsride mentioned. I thought maybe it was my thick cold weather gloves that I haven't wore in a while. I'm pretty sure I toggled the blinker though. I quickly gave it a second try because I was getting close to my turn and they eventually lit. Curious to hear opinions.

Disassemble the turn signal switch completely and clean the old lube out and re-lube with a dielectric grease. You'll see why they're delayed or don't work (really long delay) in the cold with old sticky lube when you get into the switch. I had the same issue in early spring. It's all better now that the 14 year old lube is gone. I think this was just discussed in another thread.

I just bought me a tube of dielectric! Thanks for the suggestion! Will rebuild it this weekend.

Under 60? Wait til you try them at like 9F. I have gone through this. Spray with contact cleaner and you should be fine. Then combo of contact cleaner and "wire dryer".

If you ride colder you can try the dielectric grease thing but didnt help me tons.

One trick is to active the turn sig then push up on the lever. Beyond that, I only solved the problem by buying a newer set of switch gear. (didnt have patience for more dismantling/cleaning)

Joe, did you ever disassemble and clean the switch mechanism? It's a pain, but mine was full of goo.
