Trip meter goes zero...
I have get a weird problem to my FS! Trip meter resets itself while I shut down the bike and leave the power off for a minute or so...If I just turn it off and on again nothing happends...the readings in trip remains the same.
Seems like there is some charge or so that runs down. Does anybody knows how that trip is done (I mean you can reset it with keeping the switch down for few seconds). Is there a condensator, accu or something that keeps the readings? -Janne (VTR1000F & RG250W) |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
should be a condensator ... but not sure ...
You could install a sigma speedo for about 20$ ... that will do the trick and it is more accurate than the stock one ... a lot more with a 15th sprocket ;-) http://perso.wanadoo.fr/roadrun/Moto/VTR/tabbord.jpg You can see the difference of precision reading the 2 trips with a 15th sprocket ;-) |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
Yeah, Sigma would be much more accurate with my 16/44 sprockets too!
But call me "nuts" 'cause I think that everything original that's still in bike should work also ;-) Maybe I'll put the gauge panel to bits'n'pieces after the season (maybe month and a half left in here)... -Janne (VTR1000F & RG250W) |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
If the odometer resets when you cycle the ignition you either have a low battery charge, a poor battery ground connection or the power line to the odometer is not powered up ( Loose/poor connection at the meter, blown fuse etc. )
First check that the odometer fuse is ok and if so, verify that you have power on the R/G wire to the meter with the ignition off. The odometer is powered, with the key off, through that circuit. As far as speedo error is concerned I have had good luck with a Speedo Healer that is adjustable to compensate for sprocket changes, tire wear etc. Kai Ju |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
Odometer is just fine, it is just the trip meter that resets by itself...
Battery charge should be ok 'cause lights are bright without engine running and so on... Will check those things you said anyway! -Janne (VTR1000F & RG250W) |
mine did the same thing.... it ended up being a slightly loose negative battery cable....

English as a Second Language.
I meant tripmeter even though I said odometer. Sorry 'bout that. Kai Ju |

Re: Trip meter goes zero...
For sigma, I have found it in a "sport" store where you can buy stuff for bicycle ;-)
It's made for bicycle but can display 200 to 300 km/h  It's more accurate for the trip but for the speedo the difference is really big ! Stock speedo is very optimistic .... :? |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
Thanks for help guys! Specially Kai Ju...The fuse was blown. Should of checked that first but I was thinking that if it's blown the won't be a thing in meters...
Well, now it's ok again! I believe that the fuse was blown while changed the bulbs...Maybe I short circuited something accidentally. Those wires are quite bare at the down side of panel anyway! -Janne (VTR1000F & RG250W) |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
Great !
Where is that fuse ? With all other ones ? |
Re: Trip meter goes zero...
Yeah, with the others in fusebox. At the left end of the box...It was labeled as "odometer" if I just remember it right...
