Speedometer issues

Has anyone had issues with there speedometer turning off and on while driving?

Only when the stock reg/rec was taking a dump.

Yup, use a multimeter and check your R/R (Regulator/Rectifier). A bad R/R has been known to completey fry the dash, so check it sooner than later.

There have been issues with the cluster losing signal and speedo dropping out. My old 98 did this in wet weather, or sometimes after washing the bike. I never did track down the issue as it kept fixing it self before I could trouble shoot it to the end.

I'd check the regulator. Check voltage across battery with bike off, then with bike running to see if the charging system is working.

This is why I installed an in dash voltmeter so I could see if it ever drops.

Worth its weight in gold.

Oh and if its not that, unplug the 2 dash plugs (behind the dash) and spray them with contact cleaner.
