Question something not right

I just replaced all 4 valves on the rear cylinder and it atarted on the firat try but it doesn't sound tbe same. It seems louder and it back fires more. It still pulls the front wheel up but seems to hesitate or not accelerate as quickley when accelerating from 3 or 5k rpms at . Could i have piy it back together incorrectly or do i just need to re-tune the carbs. This is the first time that i have taken it that far appart. Iys justTdept
maybee i kust

Please help!

Thanks, dom

did you double check the piston was still at TDC and aligned the cam gears per honda spec?

did you clamp down the intake boots and double check all the hoses?

are you running manual CCTs in which case did you adjust them correctly?

did you check valve shim backlash or just put the shims back in the same place?

the loudness may just be that it needs a few miles to break in however you may also need to sync your carbs

Stock ccts, Yes the piston was still at tdc the bike was on a stand the whole time and i put it at tdc before i tore it down. I did check the valve lash and had to adjust the shims to get the tolerances to .006 +\- 1 for intake and.012 +\- 1 for exaust. Double checking the hoses an intake clamps is what im doing today, then synchronize carbs. It will still pull the front wheel off the ground but seems to be lacking when accelerating from 3k rpms up while crusing in 5th gear at 60mph. I could just be tripping, this was the first time i have tore into it that far.

So apparently i put the stacks above the carbs in the aircleaner box in the wrong spots. I had the short one above the rear carb and the tall one above the front carb. Now hopefully tuning the carbs will get rid of the lurching when cruising at 25 mph or lower.

Well he did say it ran good but just with a small flat spot... but then again I ride 60 in 3rd or 4th not 5th and like to keep my SH in the mid to upper rpm band..

Good catch on the stacks and putting them back to normal and a Carb sync should even you out

When im crusing along at 5k rpm you can hear me coming from 5 blocks away. It has a set of D&D slipons on it but they are hollow.

Almost like running chambered mufflers on a v8 with no tail pipes...

Loud pipes save lives

More like a v8 running just headers. And even louder now.i found an exhaust leak where the rear pipe from the head connects to the rest of the exhaust.
