Slow turn signal fix.... the obvious method
Slow turn signal fix.... the obvious method
I know this is a common issue but I've been dicking with it for awhile, cleaning bulb sockets, cleaning the switch multiple times, using bulb grease everywhere, probing the harness and relay...
I finally bought a new Honda switch. it's the whole shebang that mounts to the bar plus harness. Done. Instant signals. Pretty easy to install and surprised that it was only $70ish at Ron Ayers. I wasted a lot of time because I assumed the switch would be crazy expensive.
After cleaning the switch thoroughly I could get it working pretty well for the first few days, then it'd go to being even worse than before. Literally taking up to 5 minutes to start blinking every time even in warmer weather. I hated commuting without signals.
My conclusion is that the contacts were worn to the point where they either don't make enough contact, and/or the coating (if any) is worn off and the base metal that's left corrodes quickly. No amount of cleaning and lubing would cure it. I scraped with a wood toothpick to try and get a cleaner surface. Also it's about impossible to get at the middle of the 3 contacts.

Hmm. I found that dismantling and cleaning with contact cleaner made it work like new all winter.
It helps to use a contact cleaner "pen" (has abrasive strands in a pen form). Makes it like new.

Didnt know I couldnt live without them til I had em. Works on any metalic contacts (bulb bases etc)
