Should I attempt a valve job?
There is nothing more frustrating than paying for somehting I could probably do my self. However, with many of the tasks depicted in my shop manual, they are much more difficult than they appear. When it comes to valve adjustments, I was hoping some of you more experienced sudo mechanics could help me out by explaining your experience with adjusting valves.

It is a fairly simple mechanical process to adjust the valves. But then again, there is an old saying that nothing is so simple it can't be screwed up (by a sudo mechanic). 8)
Checking them is really easy for a sudo mechanic and should be done first, as jschmidt says. You very likely won't need an adjustment.
A valve job is another story and generally refers to cutting new valve seats. That's a job for more experienced sudo mechanics. :P
