Replacement batteries

Total noob question. All of my other bikes are much older, and use the standard wet battery. This '04 hawk that I have procured still has the original battery in it, but it is on its way out. I've started searching and found a few batteries, but the prices varied and I'm unsure of the quality of some. Any suggestions? I know I'm after an AGM or gel type, and I don't want to spend $200 on a battery.

If your original battery has lasted a decade why not go for Honda OEM...

Thought about it, gotta call the local dealer tomorrow. When I looked online they were showing $125, but that the part was "obsolete'.

I've seen a slick Nicad replacement that tweety builds but I don't recall what he got for them. They are pretty trick at about 1/3 the size and unbelievably lightweight but quite capable of twisting a Hawk to life. There maybe a thread on here that references them, or you maybe able to PM him for details.

I always go for a ytx14bs instead of the stock 12 but I require it to start my bike after sitting overnight out in minus 5*F.

It can be squeezed in and does help. Its just a tad taller.

Yuasa is the biggest name but I have not seen them outlast cheaper batteries. Check around ebay since you can get awesome deals on batteries that dont ship with acid but its only $8 at an autoparts store.

Check out batterystuff.com. I don't work for them or anything but I've purchased a bunch of batteries from them over the years for project bikes, etc. Here's a Superhawk battery for $56 with free shipping and a 1 year warranty. Best thing about this place in my experience has been the customer service. Think over the years they've replaced 2 different batteries under warranty. A few simple tests over the phone and a replacement was on it's way.

While you're at it check out 5 dollar Bill Murray, and Stripes was an awesome movie.

What is the CCA rating for the stock battery? I didn't find it on the battery, and my google-fu is weak. I was thinking maybe 180ish?

buy this 627740 - BikeBandit.com

It's the same stock battery, but in OEM( not for SH) package.

I replaced the original battery in my 2001 SH in 2012 with 50k miles. S

Local dealer wants $178 for a Yuasa. So that won't be happening. That part that you listed above looks to be the same, but there's no picture. Is it a Yuasa as well?

It's the same battery. Just in Honda packaging with different part number.
