R/R Swap Problem

So I switched to an R6 R/R and I have a problem. The bike turns on just fine, and runs in neutral like a champ. As soon as I shift into first the bike cuts off, no gurgle, no nothing, its just gone. What did I do wrong? What should I check first? My reading across the battery posts is correct according to the instructions for the swap....

As a side note, I did a search for this and couldn't find it anywhere. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Is your kickstand up? Doesn't sound like a R/R problem.

8541Hawk 09-05-2010 04:42 PM

You wouldn't be the first one this happened to...... ;)

Camelninja 09-05-2010 04:45 PM

yep kickstand is up

Jump the kick stand switch. If that fixes it, buy another on eBay to replace it... they are surprisingly useful. ;)

Ok so I found this posting from a guy who had the EXACT same problem as me....

https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...t=trouble+gear

So now several questions:

How do I jump the kickstand switch?
If I short out the green/green white switches now can I still replace the part later?
What the heck is wrong with the R/R swap that causes this problem?

Thanks for all the help guys, I want to get back on the road ASAP so if this is something that I can put a quick (albeit temporary) fix on it I want to get it done.

Unplug the kickstand switch then use a jumper wire to bridge the connection on the harness side.

Or cut the connector off and wire it together. No more problems, unless of course you leave the kickstand down and ride off.

Ok so when you say wire it together what would that entail? Should I attach the green/white wire somewhere along the green wire before the wire actually gets to the male plug?

That's how to do it or remove the plug and wire those two together. Don't plug it in after you make this connection.

Ok so I did some heavy interwebs looking today and figured out how to splice and rig the wires to make it work.... so I now have a functional bike.... granted it's a dangerous bike with a kick stand waiting to take my life if I don't pay attention... but it is functional nonetheless. I am going to order a new switch of ebay today, (although the guy is apperently out of town till tomorrow >.<) and get that bolted on ASAP. Thanks for all the help guys, and cross your fingers that I am aware enough to keep from having a disastrous left turn.

Yes be very careful as I have seen some very bad crashes caused by leaving the side stand down.

The best way to avoid this is to have a routine that you go through every time you get on the bike.

Get on the bike
Side stand up
key on

Do this every time you get on the bike and you will never have a problem, even if the switch should fail sometime or you happen to ride a different bike that might not have a safety switch. ;)

It's called coincidence. Nothing more, nothing less.

I wouldn't guarantee that you will never have a problem, but it's a great way to minimize the probabilities. I have done the patterning thing and it works well unless there is a distraction that interrupts the sequence, then there is the the likelihood of a breakdown. You need to train yourself to stop and repeat the sequence if there is an interruption and double check the kickstand and this will further decrease probabilities, but as they say, "shit happens"

Just buy another switch...

I don't mean to brag, but my kickstand is so long it keeps gettin caught in the zipper, so it's probably better that I operate it manually.:D

I don't know why i just get a red x in place of your pic. Probably something amiss with my computer since seems to be loading slow too. I believe that happened before and i can't remember what caused it although it may have had something to do with google chrome. Ill see if I can get it resolved.
