Quick Question - Fuel bits...

I have two quick questions:
1) On the bottom of the fuel stopcock, there's a little drain nipple. Does anyone know what this is for? Can I just block it off?

Today I ran out of gas because apparently my "slow leak" has leaked gallons of gas over a week's time.

2) Does anyone know how the sending unit on the low fuel guage works? I'd like to test/diagnose this piece. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

There is no hole in that protrusion. The petcock has two fuel nipples and a vacuum nipple (on the back.) The nipple like protrusion on the bottom is closed.

Weird, not on mine. There's definately a hole in it, and gasoline definately comes out. Perhaps mine if off another bike? It is a '98.

Does the stopcock have a plastic handle? Mine doesn't. Also, is it "on/off", or is it "off/on/prime" (corresponding to top/middle/bottom)?

Thanks!
-Abe.

inderocker is an unknown quantity at this point
should be just on and off... although you don't have to turn it off when removing the tank... unless the diaphram inside the petcock is detieriorated. (please do not mind the spelling... i've had too many beers to spell check)
