Please help!

How do you remove the race and dust seal in the steering stem/lower triple? It's an RC51 triple/stem but I figure they are all the same . Thanks!

Two ways...

Press the stem out of the triple, or cut the race off.

Pressing it out is not hard, but many home mechanic with a cheap press and no understanding how to use it have bent a steering stem trying

Cutting the race is not hard, but many home mechanic with angle grinder or dremel tool have gouged the stem after cutting too far. The Trick is to cut most of the way through, then with a chisel and a smart rap with a hammer, the race will fracture and come right off.

When he says dust seal I think he means on the lower triple. This cannot be pressed anywhere as the lower cone is pressed onto the stem. You can use thin screwdrivers/chisels to do a trillion tiny taps to get it off. You MUST get it off perfectly square or it will bind.

If you get fed up, it can be split with a chisel too but that is no small task either. Its not a fun job but persistence overcomes resistence, or something like that.

Smokinjoe, I used the chisel method. My jaw dropped when I saw in the service manual that it said to use a chisel. And I think a trillion little taps is an understatement

I was aware what he meant and my answer was correct ... Lol

Pressing the stem out of the triple is the fastest way if you have the means

Otherwise you do it came man with a chisel

This is to change out the old bearing style or adapt to the Superhawk?
