Petcock operation
I am new to the list. I have a 1998 VTR I am trying to get running. Looking for some help. The petcock appears to be a vacuum type with two positions:
Also, there are two nipples on the pectcock that appear to be for vacuum lines. This there a difference in the function of each? If so, what.
Finally, my front cyclinder filled up completely with gas whiched leaked into the crankcase. Any idea on wheather this is a petcock issue or float needle?
- Full on (like a prime mode)
- Vacuum operated (supplies gas only when vacuum is created.)

In a perfect world the needle would stop any fuel overflow into the cylinder. Having the petcock working correctly helps when the world is non-perfect.

The side nipple it the one you want to use, the lower nipple has no function.
Yes you have the petcock operation correct. Engine must be running for it to operate or flow fuel.
If you have fuel in the front cylinder then you may have multiple issues. The float may be sticking in the front carb letting fuel flow and you may have some type of petcock shut off issue.

I had mine apart recently and I'm pretty sure the two modes are vacuum operated or completely off. I removed the diaphram and stopper inside due to a large hole in the diaphram and I can still shut it off with the **** on the front.
