PAIR System removal What could I have done wrong?

Hey guys...I just used the PAIR system removal instructions from the forum and as I expected it was an easy removal. I did everything like the instructions BUT after removal, the Hawk will not run in the upper RMPs. It will start and idle but will not take gas. Yes I turned the fuel on, reed keeper(s) were inverted correctly, all hose opening plugged...I just can't figure it out. I didn't touch the carbs and yes removed my rags from the openings.
Before I put this system back on can anyone think of what I could have done wrong OR is there a chance that my set-up needs the PAIR system?
Dyno Jet kit, K&N filter and Yosh slip ons. The bike ran great last weekend but just had the little pop that I wanted to do away with.
Thanks

Look at your petcock again. Is there a vacuum tube going to the nipple pointing straight down? If so thats wrong. Vacuum hose needs to go to the nipple you can't see - the one pointing to the back. The one pointing down is a vent. Strangle the gas flow when you inadvetently relocate it there.... PVLIR

+1 I think this is probably one the most common mistakes people make when they take their tanks off.

I actually bought my bike with the vacuum hooked up wrong to the petcock and it ran fine for over a thousand miles... Then it suddenly quit. Luckily I'd noticed it when I synched the carbs and read about it here so I pretty much knew exactly what the problem was.

BINGO....Thanks guys. That was it. She runs now. Should be 52 tomorrow here in Charlotte NC so I will have a chance to see if the popping is gone.
This forum rocks!

Don't feel too bad man, a lot of people have made that mistake. In fact, that's how I found this forum. I was searching for a solution to my issues after I did a valve adjustment. And I'm a MECHANIC! HAHAHA!

It's more common than the heartbreak of psoriasis...
