No speedo.
So the other week the bike died on the way back home from a long ride. The R/R has been replaced with a R1 one. The speedo was working fine up until it died that day. All other gauges still work, and backlights still work, the speedo just doesn't register speed. When i start it the needle moves to 0, but wont go past there. I've tried to search it but haven't really found any threads close to it that doesn't just go straight to being a bad R/R. Any ideas?

Check the fuse for starters... Then check the speedsensor... If those work it's most likely the R/R...

all the fuses are fine, ill have to check the speedsensor, but i just replaced the R/R with a new R1 one, i dont see how it would be the R/R.

Huge diagnostic mistake NOT to look at all components and sub systems that can cause the symptoms your seeing. It's as simple as a voltage check.. either your getting what you need at the battery, or not. Then you can cross the R/R off the list and move on. I have had both the Speedo and Tach stop working on me over the years.. Never been a hard part failure.. Each time it was "fixed" by disassembling each connector, cleaning, drying, and using wire dry , then some dielectric silicone on the plug seal.. don't forget the wire connection with screws on the back of the meter housing, and the large multi wire plug there as well. |
good deal, ill get it checked out. thanks for the info. I mean its not a huge problem at the moment, just more of a inconvenience

After it died, i chaged the battery then let it set for a few days off charge after riding it again. Its holding between 12.5V-13.2V, and havent seen it drop or rise past that.

If so... not what we are referencing. Start the bike, bring it up to 3k RPM or so and take a voltage reading at the battery. |
with the bike off it sets around 12.5V, Engine started at idle is about 12.8V or so, then at 3K RPM it rises to about 13.2V
