no power
Anybody have a clue what would cause no power...overnight? I ride the bike yesterday, no issues at all. I did not plug in the tender, but dead overnight?

Dead battery caused by faulty R/R ??
|
Haven't put a meter on anything but it's definitely pointing towards the battery. I know nothing about working on bikes. When I plugged in the tender it doesn't indicate that it's charging. Is that an indication of a disconnect somewhere, or just a completely dead battery. I bought an aftermarket rr from a member here last year.

If you describe the problem better then it might be possible to narrow it down
How old's the battery? Do the lights come on or is it completely dead? Main fuse? Do the lights come on and the starter clicks? Not enough juice to turn it over - knackered battery. What kind of R/R; genuine Honda finned R/R ? or cheapo Chinese copy ? or FH marked Mosfet R/R? |
Battery is about 6 months old. No lights, no nothing. 3 volts at battery measured in dc. I'm an hvac guy. Lol
I just disconnected the rr and found one connection burnt. Trying to put a photo up. Don't know what type/brand rr, but it stinks like it got hot/fried. |
Where is the main fuse? Dumb question to those who know, but I don't.
|
Look on the left hand side on the/by the starter relay for the main fuse. Definitely from what you describe you'll be needing a new R/R (get a FH marked mosfet) and battery - if you're really unlucky you might have fried other electrical components.
Here's a link to the VTR1000F (Superhawk) Firestorm Service Manual PDF 98-03_VTR1000F_NoRestriction.pdf http://www.mediafire.com/?5u5qsfqgh9f9ejg Removed restrictions in the Honda Superhawk (Firestorm) Service Manual PDF and was able to run it through OCR so the manual is now text searchable - Enjoy |
I still have the stock rr that I replaced while it was still good, but I'll be getting another! I'm hoping I didn't burn other components! Thanks man.
|
Thanks for the manual. All i have is a phone, but it's on here! Put the stock rr back on and the battery is charging. To check the main fuse, can I just ohm it out like any other fuse?

Also, this R/R is prone to failure and I'd take a read through Tweety's mosfet R/R thread and upgrade yours. If you're already seeing burnt connectors then you're likely to have another failure. https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...why-how-25117/ |
The burnt connections came from an aftermarket rr I bought from someone here! It lasted about a year. The stock one was still good when I replaced it. I'm just putting it in there to see what other issues it may have caused. Now I can't find my key!

Burnt connectors are burnt connectors... you may be creating resistance that will certainly not help the health of your currently installed r/r ;)
