The last time I needed to empty my tank I just idled through a Sonic drive-in about five times and it was empty.

A siphon works really well. The bike sits up high enough and you can get a good draw. If that fails break out the mini-vac.

I'd say run it down as low as you can and then just use a good old squeeze bulb siphon or a mityvac like he said above.

Go for a 180 mile ride without stopping.

When my SH was repainted, we removed both the fuel cap and the petcock. I would at least remove the fuel cap. You might get by ok by keeping the petcock on.

I put a length of fuel line on both outlets on the petcock and ran them to a gas can, then used a vacuum tester (Napa, etc) to apply a vacuum to the petcock valve. You have to roll the tank around to get all of the fuel to drain out.

I took the cap and petcock off and masked the openings after letting the remaining fuel evaporate.
