Major motor problems?

Alright, here goes. My bike is gettin 28 mpg (gearing accounted for), its got a jet kit (unknown), k&n, pair blockers, +1/-2, rt-one slips-ons....

Its slow, it will wheelie, but i have been told these things like to stay in the air. Im really unimpressed with the power. Opinions aside, here goes...

Bought the bike and it sounded a little loud and people told me not to worry that they are noisy bikes. Read about CCT's and thought I should replace mine (oem 25K miles). Recently, while riding hard it back fired on me pretty hard. Now it seems like i have less power and i have a whine around 5K-7K.

The motor is just whining and ticking too loud, doesnt sound good. I have some low mile ccts im gonna put on.

But, ive also heard i have had a likely tooth jump (hopefully not a vavle bend yet)... What do i do, im gonna swap the ccts this week but i have no clue how to make sure the cam chain is in the right position.

Please help. Its my primary mode of transport... I cant have this thing taken in for a head rebuild!! :P

Thumper is an unknown quantity at this point
Well it doesn't sound good from your description.

I would worry more about pulling the valve covers and verifying it has not jumped time. The site has numerous threads on this and how to determine if the cams are still in time with the crank.

Start with the rear cylinder as it is way easier to get too than the front one.

I would not run it anymore till you verify timimng.

Thats a good suggestion, i have been keepin it at low revs, seems ok... but something tells me that its time is ticking.

What should I search for? valve timing?

Im not real "techy" but im good with a wrench, from what i can tell there is nothing specific about what to do at this point.

Check the valve timing and check the valve clearances. Take your time and think it through. Get a manual.
Here's a thread from the knowledge base on how to do this.

I have manual and have read that thread more than once. Maybe im over thinking it but something tells me im not understanding how the timing works... Well, hopefully some peeps will be on tomorrow night after i take my valve covers off. I might even have a dig. cam. at that point to help.

Ok... Read alot more... All that stuff is way over my head. Im not gonna understand a damn thing until I take my valve covers off. I have one question tho. Can i reuse the cct gaskets or use honda bond? or do i gotta wait for new gaskets?

Like I said-take your time. Turn the engine over a few times and see where the marks are on the cam sprockets when the rear piston is at TDC and you'll get a feel for the cam timing.
Maybe you can reuse the CCT gaskets if they don't come apart when you pull the CCTs. I made replacement gaskets from the cardboard packaging material that a tube of silicone gasket maker was packed in. They don't leak.
