Instrument cluster bulbs?

My temp guage isn't lit, and the bottom half of the tach doesn't show up well at night.

So I'm guessing there's 3 bulbs in there and one is burned out.

Do I just pull the 3 bolts off and pull the cluster out? Is there some exotic light bulb in there that I won't find at the parts store?

I'm gonna mess with it now, whats the worst that can happen?

Ok, good news is that's easy, remove 3 10mm bolts, spin the cluster around, and the bulbs just pull out of the back of the cluster. Nice of them to leave enough harness to work with, gotta love Japanese engineering.

Bad news is it has 1.7w bulbs in there, and I know the parts store doesn't carry them.

Does anyone know the bulb # for these so I can search for em? I did a quick search through the archives and didn't find anything.

Good question. My temp guage is doing the same thing. My RR is on its way out and i had a couple of bulbs go out with it. I hope someone knows the bulb size.

A while ago I saw a guy that made bases with LED's to replace standard bulbs.
LED's use less power and will last a lot longer.

Hmm. The 194s are rated at something like 5 watts, about 3x the stock bulb, so I don't think that's it.

The smallest wattage I could find is a 161 bulb. It's 2.7W and readily available. I'll balance out the guage lights with 1.7s and put this 2.7 in the neutral light or something. Never hurts to have brighter light there.

Did that end up working out? The light behind my speedo just went out...I should probably know how fast I'm going at night...

Yes, the 161 bulb works fine. Doesn't look any brighter than the others, but I put in the warning light anyways just to be safe and keep the guage bulbs all the same. Use a rag or something to avoid getting oil from your fingers on the bulb.
