I smell electronics burning..

Anyone who has smelled a printed circuit board after its been cooked knows that smell for life. Nothing else like it..

After my commute on the bike, I got home the other day and caught a wiff of it.. blew it off.. yesterday, caught another wiff.. started tracing it.. found the smell coming from my R/R... the smell isnt so bad I think it's burnt up.. just maybe slowly cooking.. little more than simmerring.. ..

Question: is it just cause the thing gets so flippin hot? or is this signs of it taking a dump?

Throw a meter on the battery and see what it is charging at. But I would say it is done.

Get a better one off of ebay.. the stock non finned honda one will just die again. (the newer finned unit is ok) and you can get one for $30 off ebay sometimes.

macd218 is an unknown quantity at this point
I just picked up a R6 R/R used from ebay $25. Like mentioned above you can get a stock one for the same price but might just go out again.

TOAST!!!!.. Plug burnt up (yellow leads).. R/R looks fine.. barely has any road grime on it.. But i'm sure it's well done, too..

Going to order one in a few minutes (local bike shop below my office, for those of you who dont know).. can't wait for Ebay, I can have one tomorrow. That time is worth a few dollars to me..

Ordered an '01 R1 R/R and plug for it... I was gonna just order another aftermarket 'hawk one, but we couldnt order a replacement plug.. SO.. I took the R1 plug, and ordered a R/R to match it.. lol..

Now I just want to hear from someone who's done it, and can teel me that it DOES last longer... Every post I've read says it should last longer, but no one vouches for it..

I had a similar situation the other day, my battery was holding 18volts at idle! I bought a R/R off a GSXR from ebay.

Whatever you do don't use the ones from the 04-07 CBR 1000's, if its compatible. Apparently those are having issues with the R/R as well. Local riding buddies' 05 CBR 1000 R/R just went up to **** leaving him stranded downtown. Apparently there is a TSB for them as well.
