how much improvement with aftermarket exhaust?
how much improvement with aftermarket exhaust?
Right now, I am considering purchasing used aftermarket pipes.
One is from local guy with Jardine high mount.
Another one is from the Vince & Hines S4 from this site.
Many of senior member here says bafflectomy stock can is as good as aftermarket ones.
How about weight difference? huge difference? or more mental effect?
From my experience, wide open (= high RPM) aftermarket feels more power, but low to mid range, stock can felt more torque.
If same weight, high mount will have higher CG, so regular mount is better. How much difference?
I am making decision soon so please share your experience.
I am not fastest guy, but enjoy twisties and wants enjoy Ducati like feel, not inline 4 feel.
Thanks.

I recently put the Jardine high-mount carbon system on my SHawk. I noticed a pretty significant improvement, most of which may have been in weight savings. Holding stock in one hand and Jardine in the other will really make you realize how heavy all that stainless is. As far as power, I just ran a 108.4hp at the wheel last week. The sound from them is sweet music. My $.02 says go with the Jardines, you will not be disappointed.

the stock cans are very heavy. Any aftermarket exhaust will save you weight. I had V&H S4s on my bike and loved them, but wanted a higher-mounted pipe, so I chopped the stockers, knocked the baffles out, shortened them 6", and custom hung them. I lost low-end torque doing this, as the cans are 100% hollow, but I love the sound over 5k. I may go back to the V&H's, but I'm gonna ride it this way for a while.
Somewhere I recall 13 pounds weight savings if you replace with slipons. Power is probably as high as 5hp gain depending on the cans. Doesn't really even require rejetting. As has been said, you are mostly doing it for the look and for the improved sound. The high mount really helps the looks of the bike in my opinion as well - and with the right sounding exhaust, its almost as much fun to listen to as it is to ride.
good luck
good luck
I've got Jardine Highs also. They were already on the bike when I picked it up. But as too more power...agree with the responses above on weight savings. As per hp...I know I gained 5 bh on my SV when I went aftermaket.
Thanks, guys.
I agree with the looks of high mount. looks very appealing.
Make me feel good because your reply is exactly what I thought.
So many brand of aftermarket pipes exist, but sounds is the major factor and increase of the power is very minimum without jetting and high flow air filter. right?
Sounds like Jardine and Two Bros. are the popular one.
but all other brands are as light and just preference of the sounds and looks, right?
Thanks
