Electrical issue
here is the story. I went to ride my bike on thursday and the battery was dead. Charged it this morning rode to work no issues. Put about 100 miles on after work and then my battery was smoking. I pulled the battery and its hot. Battery is probably fried and no good. But where do I start. Obviously something is causing a draw which killed the battery but what is causing it to heat up and smoke?

The regulator\rectifier is toast. You also should check all the ground points and connectors on the wiring harness.

I was wondering if that was the problem as I had to replace the one on my cbr as well. Is this a common problem with these? Is there a recommendation to use one out of another bike?

very common problem... many solutions for this use the search function there are hundreds of posts on this topic

mine has roasted itself many times and you have the same symptoms

I have replaced the regulator. I'm getting 14v the battery but I'm getting a clicking noise when trying to start. But the bike will bump start. Did I fry the battery or is something else wrong?

The battery was bad. It was reading 14v but when put on a load tester it dropped to nothing. Put a new battery in and we are up and running.

if your battery was smoking or bulging and steaming chances are even if you get 14 volts there could be 1 or a few dead cells and your battery is fried...
most auto parts stores will load test your battery for free and if you cant find any paperwork on the battery and it doesnt say on the battery I think its around 100 to 140 cranking amps. |
If you just put a new battery in without fixing the cause of the problem, it will be fried in no time flat.

This charging-system troubleshooting flowchart helped me.

I intended to use a MOSFET rr but the cycle store in the area I was in had a used stock one. So I got that installed with a battery and have put on 200 milesvwithout any issues.
