D&D slip ons w/Factory 1.0 jet kit suggestions

A good friend of mine who has been away from riding for quite some time just picked up a used 98' Superhawk with ~10K miles on it that I'm trying to help him sort out. The bike has a set of D&D slip-ons, an OE air filter, and the carbs were never rejetted.

Riding the bike, I noticed it runs rough under ~3-4K and has some hesitation on acceleration. I've ridden a VTR years ago in bone stock trim and remember much better fueling perfomance.

Anyway...after reading through the forum it seems to be an accepted consensus on the Factory Jet Kit (1.0, the one that does NOT require drilling) to correct fueling problems after exhaust mods. Am I correct in sayng that?

My buddy is tentativly going to buy this kit and I'll put it in for him but as I see it has several jet/needles included I was hoping to get a good baseline setup (jet sizes, needle position, etc) for the D&D slip-ons with OE filter.

I did do a pretty extensive search through the forum and couldn't seem to find anything specific on this. Any suggestions with this setup would be appreciated.

My factory pro kit came with some suggested jet sizes and clip position for the needle. Try those then check the plugs.

This what I just did for my bike:

1998 SH
K&N
Jardine Slip-Ons

Needles: 3rd rung down from the top
Fuel Screws: 2.5 turns out
Main Jets: 178-F, 180-R
Pilot Jet: Stock #45

But, these settings are going to be slightly different to yours. But at least this will give you something to go by. Factory Pro also gives some examples as well!

I had to up my pilot jet to the #50 today, it made a difference. It was 48, and there is no stumble, but as it gets hotter, I may have to adjust the carbs a bit more.
