Cct install problem

Just install kreig mccts last night i thought all went well. But. I tooker her for a test drive this moring and it ran good till i got home. Thats when i noticed smoke coming from left pipe (rear cyl exhaust) and a little from the right

Any help would really be appreited ??
I hope i havent damaged anything. The bike sounds and runs great. Excetp for smoke lol and it running hotter on left exhaust , rear cycl

I was on tdc compress stroke (rear and front) when i Did each

Maybe cct too tight or missed hose

Please help

Assume nothing, pretend you have never seen the bike.
look at it with fresh set of eyes in the morning.
Double check timing, then have someone else check as well.

Is the smoke coming from inside the pipe? Or are you seeing oil burning off, possibly from the rear CCT leaking a little on the header?

Also, if you have a look at how the stock header is made, you will see it goes from 2-1-2. And because of the design, the majority of the exhaust gasses will come out of the left muffler. This is why your left muffler is always warmer than the right.

EDIT: Not sure which guide you used to install the MCCT's, but this one is fantastic with lots of great pictures.

Ya smoke is coming from inside pipe
I use the kreig one that u take off only the rear cover
I think its going to have to goto mechanic tuesday. Lesson learned i guess. I will have stick to electronics. :) dam diy attitued

What colour smoke? as mentioned any smoke coming out of either can could come from any pot due to 2-1-2 system.

Did you apply threadloc / silicon on the MCCT bolt as if not oil can dribble out the rear tensioner.

If its not squealing or rattling then your tension sounds generally okay. Did you cable tie the cam chain to the sprocket when doing the rear CCT to stop any chance of the timing slipping?

billd_697@yahoo.com 08-28-2016 01:13 PM

Its a white smoke and i used blu thred locker on mounting screw snd locknut has oring and i did zip tie rear cams
I notice rpm was a little low on inital start up. And during test ride. So figurig cct were too tight and i have back them off and it idels as before. No noticeAble new nosie and it runs great. But it smokes.
And no visiable leaks for anybwhere

Wicky 08-29-2016 01:30 AM

Okay - what about the cam cover seal, is that back securely in place?

billd_697@yahoo.com 08-30-2016 03:47 PM

I believe i had it back on correctly
Thanks for help guys ill let u know what the verdict is
I dropped it off to the Doctor Scotty Miller from fast company here a couple towns over from me. If anyane can fix it he will, hes also gonna check valve clearance while hes in there and maybe make some measurements to it for future improvements ;)

Well it appears as if he has a helluva resume, but I didn't notice any twins. Keep us posted on the specifics ;)

Will do. I was shooting shit with him today and he worked on one last year and it suprise surprise had a cct failure and jumped timing. He fixed it all up for him and buddy was lucky there was no damage. Moral of store is to definatly change out ur auto cct to manuals BUT know what the hell ur doing (me anyways lol)

Just got baby back from the doctor. Not too bad actually ... No damage thank god. The smoke was from myself forgetting to check oring in cam cover and oil seeping in. We're not too sure as to were the oring ended up. Probably fell in passed cam chains and hopefully it just gets chewed up And dont make it past screens internally. He told me not to worry bout it. He also found that the choke cable was routed wrong at carb(previous owner) and was causing it not to close all the way. So he corrected. Valve clearence was spot on, while he was in there. He preformed leak test, checked compression, checked timing, adjusted mcct's. Everything is all good thank god i didnt screw anything up too bad. I guess it was good to have him look at it as he solved other issues mentioned. All of this for 400. :)
Thank u to u guys as well for helping me thru this prob. Some decent members here
Now time to get fairings back on and take her for a rip bud ;)

Glad you got it fixed.
May I ask... What O ring are you referring to?
I dont remember a " oring in cam cover" . There is no O ring on the parts fiche I can see?
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...1&d=1473502713

The only rubber bit to forget to install or misalign is the cylinder head cover gasket... but you're not going to likley not notice that gone... and it cant "fell in passed cam chains"
So you have me curious ?
EDIT: I suppose it could have been a cyl head cover bolt washer which is also rubber faced? or the PAIR cover gasket...but that is not removed as part of the cover.. and could also not fall past the cams chain??

The common issues is that huge rubber gasket simply does not get seated correctly (as someone noted in this thread) and you get an oil leak, ..loosen cyl head cover bolts, alight gasket, tighten bolts, done.

billd_697@yahoo.com 09-10-2016 07:21 AM

Im not to sure but he show me one just look like a normal oring i cant see it on diagram either. Possibly on head diagram ???

billd_697@yahoo.com 09-10-2016 07:25 AM

Possibly this part 12395-MAT-750

Wicky 09-10-2016 09:16 AM

12395-MAT-750 is the part metal/rubber washer on the head cover bolts. I hope that's not rattling about in your engine! Did the mechanic drop the sump to look for it?

I think it is possibly this o-ring.

billd_697@yahoo.com 09-10-2016 11:35 AM

Yup the one in pic not metal one thank god
But i didnt mess with this bolt so im not 100% sure.
It also may be the rubber part of cover bolt.
I will ask him next time i get up his way. Im not worried in the least.
If hes say dont worry bout it then i wont. But it would be usefull for information purposes here on form. So i will update excat oring he mentioned to me and post to this topic when i find out :)

xeris 09-10-2016 03:53 PM

When you do talk to the mechanic, just for laughs, ask him what he did to check the timing.

billd_697@yahoo.com 09-10-2016 04:24 PM

Im 100% sure it was my mistake and not his. As it dont smoke no more. Just got back from a rip And shes running great
He also was hinting at a missing seal or gasket when i first drop it off

Wow,
Crux, I was just inside my heads and never noticed that oring, I did notice the hollow locating dowel. Does that just sit around the dowel on the surface or or does it sit in a recess ???

CruxGNZ 09-14-2016 07:35 PM

Just sits around the dowel. The dowel could be inside your valve cover with the o-ring around it as well.

Make sure you have that o-ring. The oil comes from the engine, up into the valve cover and onto the cams.

Installed Kreigers last year an did not do this. Guess what? The gearbox casing a rear spring shall not rust!!! Need to pull that sucker out but kinda ignoring atm.

Add a craftily routed length of tubing and you'll have yourself a chain oiler.
