brake combo

Ok, so I found a 954 Front brake set up, complete (mc, lever, calipers). I've got new pads to put in the calipers, EBC HHs.

Any foreseeable problems with using the stock rotors. I know, Galfers would be nice, but can spare the change right now.

When you say stock rotors do you mean VTR rotors or 954rr rotors? If you mean 954 rotors the only problem would be bolting them on to a stock wheel cuz they are bigger than VTR stocker by a lot and I don't think they'll fit a VTR wheel???

The only problems I can think of that you might have is getting the 954 calipers mounted on the VTR forks...the bolt pattern may line up, but you may need to grind them here and there to get a good fit. Also, take a look at the contact area for the pads on the rotors to make sure you have a good bite area on the stock rotors.

My 2 cents & good luck bro!

Good advice, thanks. I was expecting to have to do some grinding, from what I've read on here.

Should be a good experience.

If all else fails, I might just go with a F4i setup, and sell the 954 stuff.

SlowHAWK is an unknown quantity at this point
Any of the larger setups (929/954/RC51/F4/F4i) will require grinding to fit up on the VTR forks.... so grind away, you have a good setup to use.

You'll be very happy with the switch... and wont have problems with the VTR rotors, I had a RC setup with VTR rotors for 2 seasons, worked just fine.

Why not keep the 954 stuff and upgrade your forks? You'll get the bigger rotors with a 954 wheel and the added benefit of a sweet adjustable fork setup

Thanks Slowhawk, that's what I needed to hear.

FL02, you are the man. If I had the cash, I'd definitely be looking at swapping the forks and wheel and upgrading the whole front of the bike. For now, I found the M/C, Lever, braided brake lines and calipers for a good deal. Pads (brand new in package) are free from a co-worker who no longer has his 954. Believe me, I want to upgrade, but am willing to do the small steps.

Once the calipers are mounted up, I'll let everyone know how they work. Should be "one finger" braking after that.

Thanks again for the help.

For true one finger braking go with radial MC:

I won one of those Nissins on Ebay, but the seller didn't actually have them in stock (different guy from your listing) I was pretty pissed until he offered to upgrade me to the Brembo 19x20 radials for no extra charge. I'm a happy camper now. It's squeezin' a pair of CBR1000 radial calipers.

Ok, got all the pieces, and I want to put it on Saturday.

MC and calipers came with stock 929 brake lines. Are they longer or shorter than stock VTR lines. If shorter, do the stock VTR lines bolt onto the 929 MC and calipers.

TIA

I'm guessing that the 929 lines are shorter cuz forks are about 2+ inches shorter and yes your stock banjos should bolt right up the the 929 calipers

Thanks FL02. I hope so, don't want to get that far, and find out I'm short parts.
